World Cup 2026 leaderboard update: USA join Mexico in the Round of 32

The United States are through. A 2-0 win over Australia in Seattle made the co-hosts the second confirmed Round-of-32 team, joining Mexico before the late Group C and Group D games were complete. ESPN's match recap credits the U.S. win to a Cameron Burgess own goal and Alex Freeman's first-half strike, while ESPN's qualification tracker lists Mexico and the United States as qualified. 12

This update covers completed matches through 22:00 UTC on June 19. Scotland vs. Morocco had started but was still live at the cutoff, and Brazil vs. Haiti plus Türkiye vs. Paraguay were scheduled for later, so those matches are not folded into the tables below. 34

The U.S. are now 2-0-0 in Group D with a 6-1 goal line and six points. FOX's match log shows Burgess' own goal in the 11th minute and Freeman's goal in the 43rd; ESPN's qualification tracker says the result sends the U.S. into the knockout rounds and leaves them close to winning the group, depending on Türkiye vs. Paraguay. 25

The Golden Boot board did not move in that match. Folarin Balogun stayed on two goals, while Jonathan David and Lionel Messi remain level at three. David still leads FOX's goals table on games played because Canada have played twice; Messi has three goals from Argentina's single match. 6

ESPN's standings page has the full table snapshot after the U.S.-Australia result. Group C remains pre-Scotland-Morocco because that match was still live at cutoff; Group D includes the completed U.S. win. 7

The U.S. result changed the team standings more than the individual scoring race. Freeman joins the one-goal tier; Balogun remains in the two-goal chase pack after scoring twice in the opener. FOX's standard player table still has David and Messi together at the top with three goals. 6

FOX's front-page stats card lists Chris Wood, Alexander Isak, Ryan Gravenberch, Joshua Kimmich and Deniz Undav at two assists each. None of the U.S. goals added a new two-assist player because the opener was an own goal and FOX does not list an assist on Freeman's goal in the play-by-play. 58

Raúl Rangel still owns the clean-sheet lead. FOX's goalkeeper table lists the Mexico keeper at two clean sheets and no goals allowed through 180 minutes. Matt Freese is now part of the one-clean-sheet group after the U.S. shut out Australia, but he remains behind Rangel because the U.S. conceded once against Paraguay. 59

FOX's player-rating table still has Messi as the highest-rated player in the tournament so far, at 9.5. The U.S. result adds Freeman to the story, but not to the top of the rating board; the current top five remain Messi, Havertz, Ayari, Haaland and a tie line that includes Kane and Isak at 8.5. 6

Three June 19 matches remain outside this cutoff. Scotland-Morocco was already live, Brazil-Haiti was scheduled for 21:00 Eastern, and Türkiye-Paraguay for midnight Eastern. Those results will reshape Groups C and D in the next digest, especially if Türkiye or Paraguay change the U.S. path from merely qualified to officially first in Group D. 23
