What to Stream: July 3–9, 2026
A weekly guide to the best new Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV+, and Hulu releases for July 3–9, with Rotten Tomatoes scores and clear watch/skip verdicts.
The July 3-9 streaming window has one clear answer for weekend planners: start with Apple TV+ if you want fresh prestige TV, use Netflix for the broadest genre spread, go to HBO Max for Sunday appointment viewing, and treat Hulu as a high-value library week. The window runs Friday, July 3, through Thursday, July 9, 2026, for US subscribers.

RT scores are from the research run completed July 2, 2026. New-release scores may change after premiere weekend.
Apple TV+: the strongest fresh slate
Silo S3 premiere — Binge-Worthy
Platform/date: Apple TV+, July 3. Type: sci-fi drama, 10 weekly episodes through September 4. Time commitment: weekly hourlong drama. RT: 100% early critics; audience score Not Yet Rated. Why it matters: Silo returns as Apple TV+'s largest fresh premiere this week, with Rebecca Ferguson back as Juliette Nichols and a new split-timeline story that moves between the present silo rebellion fallout and earlier events involving Helen Drew and Daniel Keene. 12
Verdict: Binge-Worthy. The early 100% critic score is a small-sample signal, but the series already has two seasons of audience investment. If you have not watched Silo, start from Season 1 rather than jumping in here.
Star City Ep. 7 — Binge-Worthy
Platform/date: Apple TV+, July 3. Type: For All Mankind spin-off, Episode 7 of 8. RT: 97% critics; audience score unavailable. Why it matters: Episode 7 is the penultimate episode before the July 10 finale, so this is the last clean catch-up point before the season closes. The series is set inside the alternate-history space-race universe and stars Matthew Rhys. 117
Verdict: Binge-Worthy. A 97% series score makes this the safest Apple TV+ continuation pick if you already follow the For All Mankind world.
Sugar S2 Ep. 3 — Watch It
Platform/date: Apple TV+, July 3. Type: detective noir series. RT: 96% critics from 24 reviews; audience score unavailable. Why it matters: Colin Farrell returns as private detective John Sugar, and Season 2's score has moved well above Season 1's 81% series benchmark. 1819
Verdict: Watch It. The score is strong enough to recommend, but this is a continuity pick. Start with Season 1 if the sci-fi/noir turn is still unknown to you.
Cape Fear Ep. 6 "Possum" — Watch It
Platform/date: Apple TV+, July 3. Type: psychological horror limited series, 10 episodes. RT: 80% critics from 25 reviews; 59% audience with fewer than 50 ratings. Why it matters: Javier Bardem plays Max Cady opposite Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg as executive producers. Episode 6 continues the revenge-thriller run toward a July 31 finale. 2021
Verdict: Watch It. The critic score supports staying with it, but the 59% audience score says this is not a universal thriller recommendation.
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Ep. 9 — Watch It
Platform/date: Apple TV+, July 8. Type: dark comedy thriller, Episode 9 of 10. RT: 93% critics; audience score unavailable. Why it matters: Tatiana Maslany and Jake Johnson lead a show that is one week from its July 15 finale, and Apple has already renewed it. 1822
Verdict: Watch It. This is a catch-up recommendation, not a single-episode sampling pick. If the premise works for you, Episode 9 is where the season should start tightening.
Trying S5 premiere — Binge-Worthy
Platform/date: Apple TV+, July 8. Type: British comedy-drama. RT: series-level 96% critics; 91% audience. Why it matters: Rafe Spall and Esther Smith return as Jason and Nikki, with Charlotte Riley joining as Kat, the biological mother whose arrival disrupts the family. 78
Verdict: Binge-Worthy. The series has the rare combination of high critic and audience scores. If you want something warmer than this week's thrillers and franchise dramas, this is the cleanest pick.
Netflix: broadest weekend menu
Dark Winds S4 — Binge-Worthy
Platform/date: Netflix, July 4. Type: AMC neo-Western crime thriller, 10 episodes. RT: 100% critics from 6 reviews; 71% audience from 100+ ratings. Why it matters: The season brings Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon back into a 1970s Navajo Nation crime story based on Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn & Chee novels. 56
Verdict: Binge-Worthy. The review count is small, but the critic score is perfect and the Netflix licensing window makes this easier to sample than an AMC-only run.
Netflix films with the clearest score signal
| Title | Date | Type / time commitment | RT critics | RT audience | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Old Henry 13 | Jul. 4 | Western film, 99 min | 94% Certified Fresh 23 | 92% | Binge-Worthy |
| Memento 13 | Jul. 5 | Christopher Nolan thriller, 113 min | 94% (185 reviews) 24 | Unavailable in summary | Binge-Worthy |
| Hamnet 13 | Jul. 6 | Chloé Zhao historical drama | 86% Certified Fresh (80 reviews) 14 | 93% | Binge-Worthy |
| She Said 13 | Jul. 6 | Journalism drama | 88% 25 | 91% | Watch It |
| I.S.S. 13 | Jul. 8 | Space thriller | 61% 26 | 43% | Skip It |
Old Henry is the most frictionless Netflix movie pick: Tim Blake Nelson leads a tight 99-minute Western with matching critic and audience support. 23 Hamnet is the prestige option, with Chloé Zhao directing Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal in Maggie O'Farrell's Shakespeare-adjacent grief story. 14 I.S.S. has the most obvious skip signal: the premise is strong, but the audience score in the research summary is only 43%. 26
Netflix series, anime, and comedy specials
| Title | Date | Type | RT critics | RT audience | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sparks of Tomorrow S1 13 | Jul. 5 | KyoAni steampunk anime | Not Yet Rated | Unavailable | Watch It |
| Daemons of the Shadow Realm 27 | Jul. 4 | Dark fantasy anime | Not Yet Rated | Unavailable | Watch It |
| Little House on the Prairie S1 28 | Jul. 9 | Frontier family drama | Not Yet Rated | Unavailable | Watch It |
| The Tick complete series 13 | Jul. 8 | 2001 superhero comedy, 9 eps | 88% 29 | 90% | Watch It |
| 80 for Brady 28 | Jul. 4 | Sports comedy, 98 min | 59% 30 | 89% | Watch It |
| Jeff Arcuri: Nice to Meet You 28 | Jul. 7 | Crowd-work stand-up | Not Yet Rated | Not Yet Rated | Watch It |
| Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? 13 | Jul. 3 | Comedy-drama, 113 min | 48% 31 | 78% | Skip It |
| Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? 13 | Jul. 3 | Comedy-drama sequel, 121 min | 27% 32 | 68% | Skip It |
Sparks of Tomorrow is the biggest Netflix unknown: Kyoto Animation's pedigree is the reason to sample it, but the show has no RT score yet. 13 Little House on the Prairie is also scoreless before launch, but Netflix has already renewed the adaptation for Season 2, which is a meaningful confidence signal without being a quality guarantee. 28
HBO Max: one essential Sunday, one weak horror debut
House of the Dragon S3 Ep. 3 — Binge-Worthy
Platform/date: HBO and HBO Max, July 5 at 9 p.m. ET. Type: fantasy drama, Season 3 Episode 3 of 8. RT: 92% critics from 81 reviews; 69% audience from 500+ ratings. Why it matters: Season 3 premiered June 21, and the season finale is scheduled for August 9. 34
Verdict: Binge-Worthy. This is the strongest HBO Max recommendation of the week. The audience score is lower than the critic score, but 92% from critics keeps it in appointment-TV territory.
My Adventures with Superman S3 Ep. 4 — Watch It
Platform/date: Max, July 5, after its Adult Swim airing. Type: animated superhero comedy. RT: 100% critics from 11 reviews; 77% audience with fewer than 50 ratings. Why it matters: Episode 4, "Guess Who's Slammin' to Dinner?," has Clark and Lois hosting brunch trouble while Jimmy and Hank get pulled into their own plotlines. 3334
Verdict: Watch It. Critics are all-in on the season so far, but the sample size is small and the audience score is more measured.
HBO Max films, docs, and unscripted arrivals
| Title | Date | Type | RT critics | RT audience | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lee Cronin's The Mummy 15 | Jul. 3 | Horror film, 2h 14m | 46% (199 reviews) 16 | 72% | Skip It |
| Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness Ep. 2 35 | Jul. 3 | HBO comedy limited series | 53% (30 reviews) | 48% | Skip It unless you are a Larry David completist |
| The Man Will Burn 36 | Jul. 9 | 4-part Burning Man docuseries | Not Yet Rated 37 | Not Yet Rated | Watch It |
| Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives S54 36 | Jul. 3 | Food Network reality | Unavailable | Unavailable | Watch It for comfort-food TV fans |
| Deep Revenge S1 36 | Jul. 3 | Unscripted/reality | Unavailable | Unavailable | Skip It |
| UFC at the White House with Sara Sidner 36 | Jul. 8 | CNN special | Unavailable | Unavailable | Watch It if UFC-politics crossover is your lane |
| Kitchen Chaos S1 36 | Jul. 9 | Food Network unscripted | Unavailable | Unavailable | Skip It |
| On the Case With Paula Zahn S29 36 | Jul. 9 | ID true crime | Unavailable | Unavailable | Watch It for regular ID viewers |
The Mummy has the biggest title recognition, but its 46% critic score and long 2h 14m runtime make it hard to recommend outside horror completionism. 1516 The Man Will Burn has no reviews yet, but directors Jehane Noujaim and Vikram Gandhi give it a better reason to sample than the thinly described unscripted drops. 36
Hulu: the July 3 library bundle wins
A24 film bundle — Binge-Worthy
Platform/date: Hulu, July 3. Type: library film wave. RT: Everything Everywhere All at Once 93% critics / 79% audience; Moonlight 98% critics; Lady Bird 99% critics / 79% audience; Bodies Bodies Bodies 87% critics. 910111238
Verdict: Binge-Worthy. If you only open Hulu once this week, this is the reason. The bundle covers multiverse comedy-drama, coming-of-age drama, queer coming-of-age cinema, and Gen-Z horror comedy with a better score floor than most new-release slates.
Dorohedoro S1-2 — Watch It
Platform/date: Hulu, July 3. Type: dark fantasy anime, subbed and dubbed. RT: 100% critics; audience score unavailable in the summary. Why it matters: The series follows Caiman, a lizard-headed man hunting sorcerers in the Hole, and Hulu is adding both Seasons 1 and 2. 93839
Verdict: Watch It. The 100% score is a strong signal for anime viewers, but the tone is grotesque and violent enough that it should not be treated as a general-audience comfort pick.
Hulu's lower-priority arrivals
| Group / title | Date | Type | RT critics | RT audience | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I.S.S. 9 | Jul. 8 | Sci-fi thriller, 95 min | 61% (169 reviews) 26 | Unavailable in Hulu summary | Skip It |
| NatGeo shark specials 38 | Jul. 5 | Seven documentary specials | Not Yet Rated | Not Yet Rated | Watch It for shark-doc viewers |
| Disney Celebrates America + game shows 38 | Jul. 3 | ABC special, Jeopardy! S40, Wheel of Fortune seasons | Not Yet Rated | Not Yet Rated | Skip It unless you want holiday/background TV |
| Food and reality drops 38 | Jul. 4 | BBQ Brawl, Guy Fieri shows, Worst Cooks | Not Yet Rated | Not Yet Rated | Skip It for general viewers |
| True-crime and reality bundle 38 | Jul. 9 | The First 48, Customer Wars, prison/court docs | Not Yet Rated | Not Yet Rated | Skip It unless you already follow the format |
One correction for shark fans: Discovery's actual Shark Week runs July 26-August 1, with 20 new specials. The July 5 Hulu additions are NatGeo shark specials, not the start of Discovery's Shark Week. 36
The weekend plan
Start Friday with Silo or Dorohedoro, depending on whether you want prestige sci-fi or violent anime. Saturday belongs to Dark Winds and Old Henry on Netflix. Sunday is for House of the Dragon. During the workweek, use Hamnet for a prestige-film night and Trying for the lighter Apple TV+ counterweight.
Skip The Mummy unless 2026 horror completionism is the point. Its audience score is better than its critic score, but a 46% Tomatometer and 2h 14m runtime make it the weakest high-profile bet in the window. 16
