What to Stream: August 7–13, 2026
Seven decision-ready picks for August 7–13 across Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV+, and Hulu, with current Rotten Tomatoes signals, time commitments, and explicit watch-or-skip verdicts.
The short answer
The best one-sitting bet is Netflix's The Last House: a 1h 50m sci-fi thriller built around a family sealed inside its home, with Greta Lee and Wagner Moura in the lead roles. Rotten Tomatoes had it at 0% from 0 critic reviews and 0 audience ratings in the Aug. 6 snapshot, so the recommendation comes from the premise, cast, and manageable runtime—not a review consensus. 12
For a known quantity, choose Ted Lasso Season 4's next weekly episode on Apple TV+; the season was at 89% from 58 critics and 89% from 50+ verified audience ratings. For horror, HBO Max's The Strangers: Chapter 2 is a short commitment with a clear warning label: 15% critics and 54% audience on Rotten Tomatoes. 345
This guide covers August 7–13, 2026 and focuses on seven movies, series, and documentaries that give you enough information to decide whether to spend a weekend evening—or several hours—on them. Rotten Tomatoes figures are a snapshot checked August 6; scores can move as reviews and ratings arrive. “Not yet scored” means no usable percentage was available for that season or film at checking time.

Netflix: one high-concept movie and two very different comedies
The Last House — Watch It
A family of four is suddenly sealed inside its home with no way out. They have to ration what they have while figuring out what is keeping them trapped. Louis Leterrier directs; Greta Lee plays Ann and Wagner Moura plays Jason. Netflix's official material gives the film an August 7 release and a 1h 50m runtime. 12
The hook is clean enough to sell the movie without a trailer breakdown: a domestic survival story where the walls are the mystery. The lack of early reviews matters, especially for a film asking for nearly two hours, but the time commitment is not excessive and the cast gives it a reason to be the week's safest blind try. Start here if you want suspense without signing up for a new multi-season world.
Ricky Gervais' Alley Cats — Watch It if you like abrasive animation
This adult animated comedy follows foul-mouthed feral cats causing trouble while musing on the meaning of life and trying to survive a hostile human world. Ricky Gervais created, directs, executive-produces, and voices Gus; the voice cast also includes Diane Morgan, Tom Basden, and Kerry Godliman. Season 1 arrives August 7, but the opened schedule and RT season page do not state an episode count or runtime, and no percentage was available. 78
That is a specific audience test, not a universal recommendation. If Gervais's blunt workplace-and-social satire works for you, the animated setting should make this an easy sampler. If you want warm family animation or a polished prestige comedy, the title's deliberately rude premise is a reason to pass.
Tires, Season 3 — Binge-Worthy for fans
Shane Gillis and Steve Gerben return as cousins trying to keep a struggling family auto-repair business alive. The third season adds Rachel Blanchard, Garret Dillahunt, and Matt Walsh, and Netflix is releasing all 12 episodes on August 13. The current Rotten Tomatoes Season 3 review page did not show a percentage, so the older seasons' scores should not be presented as a score for this batch. 1213
The release pattern answers the practical question: this is a full-night or weekend binge, not a weekly appointment. Start it if the first two seasons' workplace insults and loose, improvisational rhythm already work for you. Newcomers should sample Season 1 first rather than treating a 12-episode drop as a low-risk blind buy.
HBO Max: a sequel with a poor review signal
The Strangers: Chapter 2 — Skip It
HBO Max adds Renny Harlin's 2025 horror sequel on August 7. Maya, played by Madelaine Petsch, survived the first attack; the masked killers return after learning she is still alive, forcing her through another round of pursuit. The film runs 1h 36m and also stars Gabriel Basso and Froy Gutierrez. 59
The RT split is not flattering: 15% from 74 critics versus 54% from more than 500 verified audience ratings. The critics' consensus calls it a tired, tensionless slog with predictable scares. If you are committed to finishing the trilogy or want exactly this kind of masked-killer sequel, the short runtime limits the damage. Otherwise, use the same 96 minutes on The Last House.
Apple TV+: two Wednesday premieres, one returning comfort watch
Ted Lasso, Season 4, Episode 2 — Watch It if you're caught up
Apple TV+ premiered Season 4 on August 5 with one episode, then scheduled a new episode every Wednesday through October 7. The August 12 release is therefore the season's second weekly chapter. Ted is back in Richmond coaching a second-division women's football team, with Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift returning. 1015
The score is unusually useful this early: Rotten Tomatoes lists 89% from 58 critics, and a current Forbes snapshot lists an 89% audience score from 50-plus verified ratings. The critical read is warm but qualified—comforting and funny, though not always necessary. Watch if the original show's emotional ease is the point of your subscription; skip the middle chapter if you have not watched Episode 1. 34
Women in Blue (Las Azules), Season 2 — Watch It
The Spanish-language crime drama returns August 12, then releases one episode weekly through September 30. Season 2 follows María after her promotion to lieutenant. When a student activist's body is found, the investigation reaches back to the 1968 student massacre and exposes corruption inside the police force. Bárbara Mori, Natalia Téllez, Amorita Rasgado, and Ximena Sariñana return, with Fernando Rovzar and Pablo Aramendi as creators. 11
Season 2 had no usable Rotten Tomatoes percentage in the Aug. 6 snapshot. That makes this a premise-and-cast recommendation rather than a consensus pick. Choose it if you want a serialized police mystery with historical and political stakes; because it is weekly, it also asks for less immediate time than Netflix's 12-episode Tires drop.
Hulu: a personal documentary over library filler
Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear — Watch It if you want a music biography
Hulu's August 13 original follows Travis Barker from his early work as a trash collector in Laguna Beach to Blink-182, while dealing with the pain and grief left by the plane crash he survived. Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer direct; Matthew Weaver and Nick Stern produce. Hulu lists no runtime in the opened press material, and no critic or audience percentage was available at checking time. 1417
The audience is obvious: Blink-182 listeners, viewers interested in survival stories, and anyone who prefers a single documentary to a new fictional universe. It is a blind watch on reviews, but not on subject matter. If Barker's career is not already part of your cultural map, the film's personal angle is still a stronger reason to sample it than Hulu's routine season drops this week.
Bottom line
Pick The Last House for a contained sci-fi thriller and Ted Lasso for a familiar weekly comfort watch. Women in Blue is the Apple TV+ choice if you want a new crime story rather than a continuation of a comedy. Netflix supplies the largest time commitment with Tires Season 3, while Alley Cats is a narrower bet built around Ricky Gervais's voice.
The clear skip is The Strangers: Chapter 2: even with a 54% audience score, its 15% critic score and hostile consensus give you better information than most same-week premieres. Hulu's Louder Than Fear and the two Netflix originals remain unrated, so choose them for their subjects and premises—not because an absent score secretly means approval.
