NBA Daily Digest: Kaluma erupts, Philly survives, Trent stays
Arthur Kaluma's 34-point Lakers night, Philadelphia's overtime escape, the rest of Saturday's Vegas board and Gary Trent Jr.'s reported Bucks return headline today's NBA digest.
Arthur Kaluma, Los Angeles Lakers forward, put the biggest number on Saturday's Vegas board: 34 points, six 3s and a 91-70 Lakers win over Dallas. Philadelphia also moved to 2-0 in overtime, Orlando and New Orleans both won tight games after second-half turns, and Milwaukee's only confirmed roster move was bringing back Gary Trent Jr. on a reported four-year deal. 1 2 3

Saturday scoreboard
| Game | Final | Lead line | What changed the game |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat vs. Magic | Magic 93, Heat 88 | Jase Richardson, Lester Quinones and Colin Castleton each scored 15 for Orlando. | Orlando turned a six-point halftime deficit into a nine-point lead with a 33-18 third quarter; Miami guard Trevor Keels still had the game's high line with 32 points. 4 |
| Pelicans vs. Hornets | Pelicans 95, Hornets 91 | Hunter Dickinson scored 21, and Kobe Bufkin filled the sheet with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. | New Orleans closed on a 15-2 run after trailing by 18, with Charlotte going 4-for-18 in the fourth quarter. 5 |
| Pacers vs. 76ers | 76ers 100, Pacers 93 (OT) | Philadelphia guard Labaron Philon scored 24, and 76ers center Johni Broome added 23 points and 11 rebounds. | Indiana tied it at 93 after trailing by 24, but Philadelphia scored all seven overtime points. 2 |
| Knicks vs. Spurs | Spurs 70, Knicks 49 | San Antonio forward Carter Bryant scored 19 on 7-for-10 shooting. | The Spurs held New York to 26.5% from the field and built a 39-17 halftime lead. 6 |
| Nuggets vs. Timberwolves | Nuggets 101, Timberwolves 82 | Denver guard KJ Simpson had 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. | Denver won the fourth quarter 28-10, shot 37.5% from 3 and held Minnesota to 35.5% overall. 7 |
| Hawks vs. Nets | Hawks 83, Nets 76 | Atlanta wing Kobe Johnson led the Hawks with 17 off the bench. | Brooklyn led by 10 with 7:33 left, then Atlanta closed on a 26-9 run while holding the Nets to 2-for-24 from 3. 8 |
| Rockets vs. Raptors | Raptors 102, Rockets 89 | Toronto wing Seth Lundy scored 23, while guard Tyreke Key added 19 from the second unit. | The Raptors' bench won its minutes 45-24 and Toronto finished with a 16-8 closing run after Houston got within five. 9 |
| Lakers vs. Mavericks | Lakers 91, Mavericks 70 | Los Angeles forward Arthur Kaluma scored 34 on 11-for-16 shooting with six 3s. | The Lakers held Dallas to 13 points in each of the last two quarters and won paint points 42-24. 1 |
The main read from Vegas
Kaluma's line was the clear top box-score result. The Lakers already had Adou Thiero, Los Angeles Lakers forward, pop on Friday; on Saturday, Kaluma gave them a second straight wing-driven win and did it without rookie forward Cameron Carr, who missed the Mavericks game with a thumb injury. 1
The Sixers' result may matter more for roster sorting. Philon, a Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard, has now been central in two close wins, while Broome has given them a steadier interior option. NBA.com's Day 3 standouts put those two together as the first item after the eight-game slate, and that matches the scoreboard: Philadelphia needed both the guard creation and the paint work to survive Indiana's comeback. 10 2
Atlanta also moved to 2-0, but the shape was different. The Hawks shot only 43.1% and had 16 turnovers, so the win was more about defensive pressure and depth. Brooklyn's 2-for-24 from deep was the deciding number, and the Hawks' bench scoring gave them enough room to survive Kingston Flemings' quiet nine-point night. 8
Roster and availability notes
Gary Trent Jr., Milwaukee Bucks guard, is staying in Milwaukee on a reported four-year, $64 million deal after declining his player option. Trent averaged 8.1 points and shot 36% from 3 last season, so the Bucks keep a volume shooter while continuing their post-Giannis reset. 3
The availability watch is mostly summer-league level. Carr's thumb injury kept him out for the Lakers, while Brooklyn played its Hawks game without Nets guards Egor Demin and Mikel Brown Jr. That matters less than a regular-season injury report, but it does change how to read the Nets' offense after their 2-for-24 3-point night. 1 10
