NBA Daily Digest: Dybantsa lands, Lendeborg rolls, Kawhi waits

Washington Wizards wing AJ Dybantsa turned the first full Las Vegas Summer League night into a real checkpoint, not just a debut. He scored 27 points as Washington beat Utah 92-88, outdueling Utah Jazz guard Darryn Peterson in the first pro meeting between the top two picks in the 2026 draft. 1 The rest of the night gave the league a full rookie-and-second-year board: seven games, three 100-point winners and several lottery guards already carrying real usage.

Dybantsa did the part of the job Washington needed first: he forced Utah to guard him at the rim. He finished with seven rebounds, two steals and one block, and Washington led by 17 at halftime before Utah's late push cut the margin to one with 1:22 left. 1 Will Riley then scored the Wizards' final six points to close the game. 1

Peterson's night was strong enough to keep this from becoming a one-player headline. He scored 24 points after 28- and 25-point games in Salt Lake City, and Utah Jazz wing Cody Williams added 16 points, five rebounds and four steals for Utah. 1 For Washington, the cleaner takeaway is balance: Washington Wizards guard Tre Johnson scored 26, Washington Wizards forward Will Riley had 18, and Dybantsa did not need to carry the entire fourth quarter.

The offseason board had two bigger non-game notes. First, LeBron James' free-agency process is still open. ESPN reported that interested teams have sent recruiting voice notes through agent Rich Paul, and that James has "no timetable" for a decision. 8 That keeps cap-room planning awkward for teams that want him, but ESPN also reported Paul has told interested teams money will not be the deciding factor. 8

Second, the Toronto Raptors' planned trade for LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard remains on hold while the NBA completes its investigation into the Clippers and Leonard. Yahoo Sports reported that both teams confirmed the deal cannot be completed until the case closes, unless Toronto's ownership group assumes the risk of possible penalties tied to Leonard's contract. 9 The practical read: Toronto still wants the deal, but the player and draft-pick package is stuck until the league process moves.

There was no regular-season injury report to build the day around, so the practical availability notes came from Summer League. Utah Jazz wing Ace Bailey was out for Jazz-Wizards, leaving Peterson, Cody Williams and the Jazz guards to carry the first showcase against Washington. 11 The next player-status item to monitor is whether Dybantsa, Peterson, Acuff and Keaton Wagler all stay on their Sunday ET schedules after heavy opening-night usage.

The Friday Las Vegas slate starts after this run and converts to Saturday morning in GMT+8. The most useful viewing window is the middle: Nets-Knicks for the New York angle, Bulls-Grizzlies for Caleb Wilson vs. Cam Boozer, then Celtics-Raptors as the late ESPN game. 1213

If you only have one game slot, Bulls-Grizzlies has the cleanest draft hook because it puts Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson opposite Memphis Grizzlies forward Cam Boozer, the No. 4 and No. 3 picks. The Knicks-Nets slot is the local-interest watch because Brooklyn Nets guard Mikel Brown Jr. is due to face the defending champions' summer group in the early window. 13
