July perks check: Amex Gold deadlines, Chase Sapphire resets

A July 2026 action brief for the Chase Sapphire and Amex Gold benefit stack: what reset this month, what expires soon, and which fee or redemption changes deserve a quick audit before renewal.

July starts with real money on the table. The Amex Gold's July-to-December Resy bucket is open, Amex's 60th-anniversary Hotel Collection offers expire on July 15, and Chase Sapphire Reserve's dining and StubHub credits have rolled into their second 2026 half-year window.123 The useful move is not to chase every headline dollar. It is to lock in the credits you would actually use before they reset or expire.

Moving flexible points speculatively can trade one devaluation risk for another.

Amex Gold: the 2026 update is useful, but the fee math did not get simpler

Amex did not raise the Gold Card's $325 annual fee in its April 2026 anniversary update.2 The permanent changes are: 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App, complimentary Hertz Five Star status after enrollment and Hertz Gold Plus Rewards registration, and an updated $120 Dining Credit with new partners including Buffalo Wild Wings and Wonder.2
That sits on top of the food-credit stack that now defines the card: up to $10 monthly in Dining Credit, up to $50 twice a year at U.S. Resy restaurants, up to $7 monthly at U.S. Dunkin' locations, and $10 monthly in Uber Cash for U.S. orders or rides after adding the card to Uber.1 Amex raised the Gold annual fee from $250 to $325 in the 2024 refresh, with existing cardmembers moving to the new fee at renewal dates starting October 1, 2024.7
The July question is simple: would you naturally use enough of the monthly and semiannual credits without changing your spending? If the answer is yes, the 2026 hotel and Hertz additions are a small upside. If the answer is no, the extra partners do not fix the basic problem. A $10 monthly credit that makes you buy something you would not have bought is a coupon, not savings.

Gold Card moves this month

  1. Confirm that the Dining, Resy and Dunkin' benefits show as enrolled in your Amex account. Amex lists enrollment as required for those credits.1
  2. Use the July-to-December Resy half before year-end if a qualifying restaurant already fits your plans.4
  3. If you have a two-night hotel stay in the works, check the 60th-anniversary Hotel Collection offers before July 15 rather than after.2
  4. Ignore the expired Hilton transfer bonus. Amex listed that 20% Hilton Honors bonus as available only through May 30, 2026.2

Chase Sapphire: Preferred changed in June; Reserve is still a coupon-book audit

Chase made a fresh Sapphire Preferred update on June 15, 2026, with no change to the $95 annual fee.6 The additions are practical: 3X points on gas and EV charging, 3X points on vacation homes at brands such as Airbnb and Vrbo, a $100 Chase Travel hotel credit each account anniversary, a Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS credit of up to $120 every four years, and a one-year Apple TV subscription if activated by December 31, 2026.6
The trade-off is on redemptions. Chase says Sapphire Preferred points transferred to World of Hyatt at 4:3 immediately for new applicants on or after June 15, 2026, and on October 1, 2026 for cardmembers who applied before June 15.6 The 10% Anniversary Bonus is also discontinued for new applicants as of June 15, while older cardmembers can still earn it on eligible purchases through October 1, 2026, with awards by January 31, 2027.6
For Sapphire Reserve, the big fee shock already landed. Chase announced the Reserve annual fee moved to $795, with older cardmembers seeing the new fee on the next anniversary date after October 26, 2025.8 The current Reserve page stacks the card around a $300 travel credit, up to $500 annually for The Edit, up to $300 dining credit, up to $300 StubHub/viagogo credit, Apple TV and Apple Music subscriptions through June 22, 2027, DoorDash promos through December 31, 2027, Lyft credits through September 30, 2027, and Peloton credits through December 31, 2027.5
The Reserve can still be strong if those categories match your real calendar. It is weaker if you are forcing restaurant reservations, event tickets, delivery orders or portal hotel bookings only because a credit exists. The Points Guy's October 2025 breakdown also frames the new Reserve lifestyle credits as a set of five buckets that require tracking: DoorDash, StubHub, Apple TV and Apple Music, Lyft, and Peloton.9

Keep, downgrade, or ignore: the quick test

Before the next statement closes, write down three numbers for each card:
  1. Credits already used without behavior change. Count only purchases you would have made anyway.
  2. Credits likely to be used before the next reset. Semiannual and monthly credits leak if you do not schedule them.
  3. Fee hit at the next renewal. Use $325 for Amex Gold, $95 for Sapphire Preferred, and $795 for Sapphire Reserve based on current public fee pages and announcements.465
If the used-and-likely credits do not clear the annual fee with room to spare, treat the card as a rewards-earning tool rather than as a pile of statement credits. That keeps the math honest: good cards can still be bad fits for a specific year.
