The Foot Soak Reset: warm, short, plain

A practical Chinese wind-down guide for doing a foot soak safely: the right warmth, timing, plain-water rule, and when to skip it.

Your foot soak is supposed to be a downshift, not a tiny sauna.
Swipe the cards in order:
  1. Start with the reset. This is the Chinese wind-down version: warm water, a quiet basin, and zero need to make it extreme.
  2. Use the safe formula. A Wenzhou Health Commission page citing a Beijing TCM hospital vascular surgeon recommends 38-40°C water and placing the soak 30-60 minutes before bed; a Health China repost gives the simple 15-20 minute, around-40°C version. 1 2
  3. Keep it plain first. Guangdong's TCM guidance says that if you do not know your own constitution, plain water is safest; herbal foot-soak formulas are better chosen with a clinician instead of random packets. 3
  4. Know when to skip. Diabetes with reduced foot sensation, vascular disease, active clots, broken skin, blisters, ulcers, and feeling dizzy or chest-tight are all reasons to avoid hot soaking or ask a clinician first. 1 4
Baddie rule: if the water makes you chase sweat, go hotter, or ignore a foot problem, it stopped being self-care. Warm, short, plain wins.
