The Full Time Report — Episode 121: Late Margins, New Faces

Saturday gave us seven Premier League games, and only two winners. The rest was a collection of late goals, missed chances, debutants finding their feet, and one or two very small margins doing a lot of work.

Saturday's seven Premier League matches produced only two wins, three draws without a winner, a late Newcastle rescue and a Crystal Palace comeback at Fulham. This episode follows the small margins behind those results, then looks at how deadline-day signings immediately changed Manchester City and Palace, before setting up Sunday's final two fixtures and the return of European football.

The episode in brief

  • Newcastle United 2–2 Bournemouth: Bournemouth led by two, but Harvey Barnes and late substitute Jacob Ramsey brought Newcastle back.
  • Fulham 2–3 Crystal Palace: Tyrick Mitchell scored twice and Ben Chilwell completed Palace's comeback on his second spell at the club.
  • Manchester City 1–0 Coventry City: Erling Haaland scored his 300th club goal, while Enzo Fernández and Iliman Ndiaye made their City debuts.
  • Brentford 1–1 Sunderland: Vitaly Janelt's opener was cancelled out by Enzo Le Fée's late penalty.
  • Brighton 1–1 Leeds United: Jayden Bogle put Leeds ahead before Luka Vušković rescued a point for Brighton.
  • Nottingham Forest 0–0 Tottenham Hotspur: Forest had a late goal ruled out for handball, leaving both sides still without a win.
  • Hull City 0–0 Aston Villa: Hull stayed unbeaten and kept a third straight clean sheet.

The bigger picture

Manchester City and Crystal Palace were the only winners on Saturday, according to the Premier League's official matchday summary. Hull moved to seven points from three matches, while Aston Villa collected their first point. Sunday's Everton v Manchester United and Arsenal v Chelsea matches complete Matchweek 3.
The Champions League league phase begins on Tuesday 8 September, according to UEFA. The Europa League league phase begins on 16 September, so there were no men's Champions League or Europa League fixtures to recap on Saturday.
