This Massachusetts Airbnb is a real gingerbread house with a tower bedroom
The Gingerbread House Tower in Tyringham looks invented but is bookable, with a 4.99-star guest record, a dated $470 starting price, and a tower bedroom inside the fairy-tale silhouette.
The front door looks like a prop department’s idea of a cottage: shingled walls, a roof that curls into little peaks, and a tower tucked into the garden. Then you notice the address is real—and the tower is a bedroom you can book.
Time Out’s August 12, 2026 New England roundup called this the region’s most unique Airbnb. The stay is the Gingerbread House Tower in Tyringham, Massachusetts, part of the Santarella Estate in the Berkshires. 1

It is gingerbread-ish in the best possible way
The house is made of wood, but the silhouette does the storytelling: a wave-like roof, a turret-like tower, and a garden full of bridges, a lily pond, and a running brook. Inside, the listing describes a one-of-a-kind loft with a tower bedchamber, plus a kitchenette and a walk-in shower. 2
That combination is what makes the stay stranger than a standard cute cabin. You are not just renting a room with whimsical wallpaper; the building itself is the fantasy. The tower bedchamber turns bedtime into the part guests will probably retell first, while the four-acre grounds give the place somewhere to wander when the novelty of the architecture wears off. 3
The reviews sound like the right kind of escape
The current Airbnb score is remarkably strong: 4.99 from 348 reviews. For actual guest language, a USA TODAY Network report published April 3, 2025 quoted earlier Airbnb reviews rather than relying on the host’s description. 23
“The Gingerbread Tower was exactly as pictured and described. It was a peaceful oasis and a perfect way to relax and unwind for the weekend. Highly recommended you check it out!!” — Jessica from Franklin, quoted in the April 2025 report after a March stay. 3
“Enchanting, magical, whimsical, all of these adjectives have been used to describe this encounter.” — Terri of Laurel Springs, New Jersey, quoted after a January stay. 3
Those are older excerpts, so treat them as evidence of the property’s established character, not as a live snapshot of every current stay. The larger and still-near-perfect review record is the reassuring part: this is an early fairy-tale idea that appears to have survived contact with hundreds of actual guests. The caveat is that a 4.99 score can tell you the experience is broadly landing; it cannot tell you whether the tower feels cozy or claustrophobic to you.
The practical catch
The $470 figure is a dated starting price, not a promise for your weekend. Time Out published it on August 12, 2026, while Airbnb’s live checkout is the place to confirm your dates, taxes, and fees. 1
The location also rewards a car. Tyringham is a small Berkshires town, and the listing is a rural estate rather than a walkable downtown base. The payoff is privacy, gardens, and easy access to the area’s cultural stops; the trade is that you are booking a destination, not a convenient hotel room. The stay is near the Appalachian Trail and Tyringham Cobble, while Time Out also points readers toward Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, and Stockbridge. 13
If you want a stay whose oddness is architectural rather than gimmicky, this is a very good kind of ridiculous: a real house that looks invented, a tower bedroom that earns its name, and enough review history to make the fantasy feel bookable. Check your dates on Airbnb before the gingerbread tax gets any higher.
