Listening practice: The forests that live with saltwater

Imagine a forest that lives where land meets the sea. Twice a day, the tide may cover its roots, and the soil around it may contain very little oxygen. This is the world of the mangrove, a group of trees and shrubs found mainly along sheltered tropical and subtropical coasts. Mangroves are not one single species. They are a family of plants that have learned to deal with salt, mud, changing water levels, and strong coastal weather.
