Apple's 2028 iPhone is starting to look like the point where Apple's 2027 anniversary redesign is meant to mature, not a separate reset. A MacRumors report published on August 2 UTC gathers six claims about the display, front sensors, OLED stack, chip process, and telephoto camera. The useful update is the shape of the long-range plan; the evidence is still a compiled roadmap, not a production leak. 1
What the 2028 model is supposed to fix
The 2027 anniversary iPhone is expected to introduce a curved display that runs toward all four edges. The 2028 model is described as the refinement cycle:
- A more transparent indium zinc oxide cathode could reduce distortion, brightness loss, and heat at the curved edges. MacRumors attributes this material change to a report from Korea's ETNews. 1
- A smaller hole-punch Dynamic Island, or an eventual move of Face ID and the front camera under the display, is presented as the next step toward a cutout-free front. - 200-megapixel periscope telephoto: Prototype testing has reportedly reached a 200MP periscope sensor, with a possible 2028 window. The camera claim is the easiest to overstate. A 200MP sensor would provide more cropping headroom, but the useful outcome would depend on lens quality, stabilization, processing, and heat. The number alone is not a finished camera specification.

The next meaningful evidence would be a supplier or display-industry report naming the transparent cathode or tandem-OLED program, a firmware identifier tied to 2028 hardware, or a production document that names the 200MP periscope module. A certification filing could support a device's existence, but it would not by itself confirm the display stack or camera resolution.
