Apple leaks, August 12, 2026: iOS 27 exposes six iPhones and nine watch colors
iOS 27 beta 5 names six unreleased iPhone identifiers, while watchOS 27 code adds nine Modular face colors; both are active-development clues, not launch confirmation.
The strongest fresh Apple signal in the last 24 hours is not a render or a supply-chain photo. It is code: iOS 27 beta 5 lists six unreleased iPhone identifiers in battery-driver and Battery Intelligence files. Mark Gurman also says Apple's foldable is called "Ultra" internally, while a separate watchOS 27 code find names nine new colors for the Modular face. The useful conclusion is narrow: Apple is preparing software for a six-model iPhone slate, but the code still does not lock launch dates, marketing names, or final hardware.
iOS 27 lists the whole next iPhone slate
Macworld found six internal identifiers in iOS 27 beta 5: V62, V63, V64, V67, V68, and V69. The references sit in system files tied to iPhone battery drivers and Battery Intelligence, alongside identifiers for current models. 1
The current mapping is:
| Internal identifier | Expected model | What is actually established |
|---|---|---|
| V62 | iPhone Air 2 | The identifier is present; the product name is inferred from earlier reporting. |
| V63 | iPhone 18 Pro | The identifier is present; the product name is inferred. |
| V64 | iPhone 18 Pro Max | The identifier is present; the product name is inferred. |
| V67 | iPhone 18 | The identifier is present; the product name is inferred. |
| V68 | iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold | The identifier is present; the foldable mapping is inferred. |
| V69 | iPhone 18e | The identifier is present; the product name is inferred. |
MacRumors and 9to5Mac report the same six-code list; the model names remain inferred rather than Apple-published. 23
The code is meaningful because Apple is wiring iOS for devices that do not exist in the current lineup. It is not a launch calendar. The beta does not expose specifications, and the model names in the table are researchers' matches to previously reported codenames rather than labels Apple has published. 4
The likely split launch — premium models in fall 2026, with the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 later — comes from the surrounding rumor chain, not from the battery files themselves. Treat it as a roadmap interpretation. 1
Readout: medium-high confidence that the six identifiers are active in iOS 27 beta 5; medium confidence in the identifier-to-product mapping; low-to-medium confidence in the launch sequence. Macworld is the discovery source, while MacRumors, 9to5Mac, and AppleInsider are readable follow-ups to the same code finding. That is broad accessibility coverage, not independent corroboration.
"Ultra" is the internal shorthand, not the retail name
Mark Gurman replied on X that "Everyone calls it the Ultra internally. We’ll see what happens." The reply is a direct, time-stamped statement from the reporter who has been carrying the foldable-iPhone roadmap, but it does not say that Apple has settled on a public name. 5
AppleInsider's same-day article makes the boundary explicit: the device has also been called iPhone Fold in coverage, and internal shorthand does not guarantee the name Apple will put on the box. 6
This is a small but useful increment over the previous foldable reports. It supports "Ultra" as the current internal label and lines up with the V68-to-iPhone-Ultra mapping above. It does not settle whether the device will be marketed as iPhone Ultra, iPhone Fold, or something else. Apple has changed product names late before; the final check is packaging, an Apple event listing, or a regulatory record that names the product.

Readout: medium confidence for the internal shorthand; low confidence for the retail name. The evidence is one direct Gurman post plus a same-chain report. Do not treat it as independent confirmation of the device's launch timing.
watchOS 27 adds nine Modular color names
Aaron Perris found nine new Modular watch-face color names in iOS 27 beta 5: Cool Slate Blue-Gray, Dusty Rose, Flat Sage Green, Muted Navy Blue, Pale Mint Green, Soft Periwinkle Blue, Soft Pink, Warm Cream, and Warm Taupe. His post says the colors are planned for fall 2026, but the beta contains names rather than visual previews. 7
9to5Mac reports the same discovery and adds the important caveat: some colors could eventually appear in watch bands, but that connection is speculation. The code is evidence for a software customization change, not proof of new band materials or a Series 12/Ultra 4 accessory lineup. 8
The signal is modest, but cleaner than a vague beta teaser: it names the strings and places them in a specific software build. It also illustrates the right confidence boundary. The existence of the names is testable in the beta; the final palette, release timing, and any matching hardware are still subject to change.

Readout: medium-high confidence that these color names are present in the beta; low confidence that they predict specific watch bands or hardware colors.
Corroboration map
| Signal | Source A | Source B | Independent confirmation | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Six unreleased iPhone identifiers appear in iOS 27 beta 5 | Macworld code discovery 1 | MacRumors and 9to5Mac follow-ups 2 | No; same code-finding chain | Medium-high for code presence |
| Foldable iPhone is called "Ultra" internally | Gurman's direct X reply 5 | AppleInsider report 6 | No; same Gurman statement | Medium for internal shorthand |
| Nine Modular color names are in watchOS 27 development | Aaron Perris's X post 7 | 9to5Mac report 8 | No; same beta-code finding | Medium-high for code presence |
What did not clear the bar
- Apple's new home operating system: MacRumors published a fresh explainer on August 11, but it points back to Mark Gurman's July 28 report about the Home Hub. It also repeats the Home Hub roadmap already covered in this channel, so it is not a new independent leak for this edition. 9
- OLED panel inventory: MacRumors published an August 11 relay saying Apple's display buffer grew from four weeks to six. The underlying ETNews report is dated August 10 and was published before this edition's 24-hour window; treat the relay as fresh accessibility coverage, not a new same-day supply-chain origin. 1011
- Ice Universe's irregular-screen claim: His August 11 post interpreted an iPhone Ultra screen protector as showing an asymmetrical display, then he corrected it about an hour later, saying the actual screen remained a symmetrical rounded rectangle. The correction removes the claim as a usable design signal. 1213
No additional high-signal, newly sourced item cleared the same bar for Mac, iPad, AirPods, Vision Pro, or Apple services in this window. That absence is preferable to turning beta feature explainers, old roadmap pages, or unverified social posts into a fuller-looking list.
What to watch next
- iPhone beta: whether later iOS 27 builds retain the six identifiers, add marketing-name strings, or expose model-specific battery behavior.
- Foldable naming: an Apple event listing, regulatory filing, packaging leak, or official support document that uses "iPhone Ultra" rather than an internal shorthand.
- watchOS: visual previews of the nine colors and any separate evidence tying them to watch bands or a specific Apple Watch generation.
- Supply chain: a new supplier report that names the affected iPhone models or confirms whether the longer OLED buffer persists into the iPhone 18 Pro production cycle.
The day's strongest evidence is software-level and specific: six internal iPhone identifiers and nine watch-face color strings. Both show active preparation. Neither is a finished product announcement, and the foldable's "Ultra" label remains an internal clue until Apple says otherwise.
