Apple Watch code adds Readiness and 128GB clues; iOS 27 camera tools emerge
Fresh beta-code findings point to new Apple Watch health and storage capabilities and a more capable iOS 27 Camera app, with both still awaiting Apple's September 9 confirmation.
The September 7-8 window produced two code-based Apple signals before the September 9 event. Both came from MacRumors forum researcher
pdfu, so the details are specific while the discovery chain remains a single source. The Apple Watch report adds a Readiness app, richer strength-workout records, a new optical sensor family, and a 128GB storage clue. The iPhone report adds five camera controls and processing paths in iOS 27. 12Apple Watch code points to new health hardware and storage
The Watch thread describes a separate app called
Readiness, also referenced as Cobalt, placed immediately after Workout in the default watchOS Home Screen order. The iPhone companion app contains matching placement logic. The app itself remains absent from the current watchOS beta, so the code establishes an intended software path rather than a finished interface. 3The same post describes new health-database records for individual strength-workout sets. The records can hold repetitions, weight, equipment, body side, and duration. The implementation remains stubbed in the current iOS 27 and watchOS 27 betas, which leaves the eventual user interface and launch timing open. 3
The hardware clue sits in the
Sunstone4p0 sensor family. The code uses lower modeled noise coefficients than the prior Sunstone3p75plus family and selects optical channels according to the left or right wrist and crown orientation. Those changes fit a revised heart-sensing design, while the physical sensor layout remains an inference from software behavior. 3The storage clue comes from a Samsung NAND profile associated with
T8320 and labeled 1024gb. The forum researcher reads that capacity as 128GB, while earlier platform mapping connects T8320 with the expected Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The profile raises the probability of a 128GB configuration; Apple's retail specification would still be the confirmation. 3Confidence: medium for the code findings; medium-low for the hardware and storage mapping. The post links each claim to identifiable beta files and firmware paths. MacRumors's article is a readable report of the same
pdfu discovery, rather than an independent second leak. 1iOS 27 code adds pro-camera tools
The second
pdfu post finds a working implementation for waveform and histogram exposure scopes in iOS 27. The code includes Luminance, RGB Composite, and RGB Parade presets, but the current Camera app exposes no consumer control for them. 4The same code adds focus peaking and highlight-clipping overlays. Focus peaking outlines high-contrast edges, while highlight warnings can use a solid color, a pulsing color, diagonal stripes, or a checkerboard pattern. The beta contains the processing APIs and demos, while the user-facing switch remains absent. 4
The camera also contains a repeated-capture path for self-timer shots. A selected timer can run again immediately after each capture, although the interface remains unfinished in beta 8. Manual focus appears in a similar state: the lower-level lens-position command survives, and the capability check limits the feature to an iPhone whose first supported iOS release is iOS 27 or later. 4
The final change is aperture-dependent lens correction. iOS 27 can blend calibration data for neighboring aperture values, using between one and four references. The reference count describes image-processing inputs; it does not establish four physical aperture stops on an iPhone. MacRumors connects the code to the widely reported variable-aperture iPhone 18 Pro, while the same processing could reach other models in a later software update. 24
Confidence: medium for the code paths; medium-low for launch availability and iPhone 18 Pro assignment. The code is detailed enough to support active development. Apple can still change the Camera app before the September release, and the feature-to-model mapping remains a source interpretation. 2

What to watch next
- September 9 product pages: Apple's event should settle whether Series 12, Ultra 4, and the iPhone 18 Pro line exist in the announced generation. Check the technical specifications for storage, sensor language, and camera controls. 1
- The first public iOS 27 and watchOS 27 builds: Look for a visible Readiness app, strength-set controls, exposure scopes, manual focus, and repeated captures. A working control would move these stories beyond private code paths.
- Apple's camera documentation: A reference to variable aperture, lens correction, or manual focus would connect the iOS implementation to specific iPhone hardware.
What stayed out
9to5Mac examined a 14-second retail video that appeared to show dark cherry and blue iPhone 18 Pro models, then judged it likely fake because case companies already had convincing dummy units, the store setting looked weak, and the leaker had recently shifted toward aggregating Chinese social posts. The video stays outside this digest. 5
The window produced no separate qualifying Apple leak for iPad, Mac, AirPods, Vision Pro, or services. Ice Universe's in-window posts concerned Huawei, Xiaomi, and Samsung rather than Apple, while Mark Gurman, Ming-Chi Kuo, and Ross Young had no new Apple product report in the same window.
