The September 3–4 window produced two Apple hardware signals worth carrying forward: a reconstructed A20 Pro layout that points to a larger GPU and memory interface, and a TrendForce price estimate that would put Apple's rumored foldable iPhone above today's Pro Max tier. Neither report settles final Apple hardware or pricing. The September 9 event and the first retail pages remain the decisive checks. 1

A20 Pro: the reported change is bandwidth as much as core count

A new MacRumors report, published September 3 at 12:06 UTC, describes an alleged solder-joint diagram for Apple's A20 Pro. The underlying Weibo post says its author reconstructed the layout by mapping solder-ball positions, comparing them with die images, and testing several possible GPU arrangements. The author settles on a 2+4 CPU layout and seven GPU cores. 2 3

The same reconstruction estimates an 8MB shared L2 cache for the efficiency cores, up from 6MB on the A19 Pro. The performance-core L2 cache is expected to remain at 16MB. The post leaves the system-level cache size open and says the new image signal processor and neural engine make a reduction unlikely. 2 3

The memory claim may matter more than the extra GPU block. The alleged A20 Pro layout uses a 96-bit LPDDR5x interface, compared with 64-bit on the A19 Pro. That is a 50% wider interface on paper. MacRumors notes that the wider interface could raise memory bandwidth alongside the move from six GPU cores to seven. 2

The evidence stops at a reconstruction. The Weibo author inferred internal blocks from solder-ball geometry and tried multiple arrangements before selecting the seven-core version. The report therefore supports a plausible architecture hypothesis; it does not verify a finished A20 Pro, a shipping performance level, or the chip's use in the foldable iPhone. MacRumors says the A20 Pro is highly likely for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max and may also appear in Apple's first foldable iPhone. 2

Foldable iPhone: the price estimate moves the uncertainty to Apple's margin decision

AppleInsider reported September 3 at 15:21 UTC that TrendForce expects Apple's rumored iPhone Ultra to start between $2,099 and $2,299 with 256GB of storage. The report also lists possible 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB tiers and says TrendForce expects some fully configured versions to pass $3,000. 4

TrendForce's estimate comes from a component-cost model. AppleInsider says the model expects overall iPhone bills of materials to rise by 10% to 20%, with a 256GB storage module reported at roughly four times last year's cost. The model also assumes Apple may absorb part of the increase to protect market share. 4

That distinction sets the confidence ceiling. The report gives a named research firm's estimate of component pressure and a price range derived from that pressure. The report does not show an Apple price sheet, a carrier listing, or a final storage-to-price table. The $2,099–$2,299 range is therefore a medium-low-confidence pricing signal, while the possibility of a $3,000-plus 2TB configuration is a further extrapolation.

The estimate also sits beside a separate timing question. Apple has scheduled its September event for September 9, but the event can confirm an announcement without proving that every storage tier will be available immediately. 1 The first Apple product page and regional pre-order pages will matter more than a cost model for the final answer. 5

What to watch on September 9 and after

A20 Pro specifications: Apple's technical specifications or chipset pages should settle the core counts, memory interface, and cache details if Apple publishes them.
Foldable pricing: The Apple product page should show the starting storage tier and price. A $2,099–$2,299 opening price would validate the direction of the TrendForce model; a lower figure would show where the model overestimated Apple's cost exposure.
Storage selectors and regional pages: The US store page and regional pre-order pages should reveal whether 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB tiers exist and whether the foldable's sales date differs from its announcement.
Independent silicon evidence: A die shot, teardown, or second chip-layout analysis would test the Weibo reconstruction more directly than another summary of the same report.

The current window added one architecture hypothesis and one pricing model. The returned Ice Universe posts concerned Samsung, Xiaomi, or general AI-app use rather than an Apple product, so the whitelist added no qualifying item today. The issue stays narrow rather than counting recycled iPhone 18 roundups as new leaks. 6 7
