iPhone 18 Pro colors: silver or black is the last open question
A fresh photo of alleged iPhone 18 Pro SIM trays points to silver, dark cherry, and sky blue, while another leaker still expects black as the third finish.
The latest iPhone 18 Pro color report narrows the live dispute to the third finish: silver or black. Sonny Dickson shared a photo of three alleged SIM-card trays in silver, dark cherry, and sky blue; another current leak still points to black. The physical parts make the three-color direction worth watching, while Apple's final retail palette remains open. 1
What the new parts image adds
MacRumors published the report on September 2 at 3:17 a.m. Pacific Time, inside this issue's 24-hour window. The report attributes the image to Sonny Dickson, a longtime Apple leaker, and says Dickson described the three trays as the only colors he had encountered in recent months. 1
The image shows three physical trays with different finishes. The reported set is silver, dark cherry, and sky blue. The parts therefore add a hardware-shaped clue to a rumor that previously relied more heavily on dummy units, renders, and leaker statements.
A SIM tray also limits the claim. iPhone models sold in the United States, Canada, and several other regions use eSIMs and omit the tray. Apple still sells tray-equipped models in Europe, Japan, China, and Australia, with regional exceptions. A tray photo can point to a production color direction without showing which markets will receive that hardware. 1
Why silver versus black is still live
The disagreement comes from two current leaker claims. Fixed Focus Digital said on September 1 that black would be the third color and that silver would most likely be absent. Sonny Dickson's newer photo instead includes a silver tray and omits black. 9to5Mac summarized both claims in its September 2 report. 2
The two claims carry different kinds of evidence. Dickson's image is a direct visual record of parts he says belong to the iPhone 18 Pro line. Fixed Focus Digital's claim is a source statement carried through 9to5Mac's account. The outlet count does not create independent corroboration because both claims still come from individual leakers.
Dickson also acknowledged that he had shown black dummy units in May. His explanation was that black dummies appear every year even when Apple chooses another retail color. That history leaves two open readings: black may be a prototype-only finish, or the newer tray set may be incomplete. 1
Confidence and evidence boundary
The report supports a medium-confidence direction toward dark cherry and sky blue, with silver and black still competing for the third slot. The source is an established leaker and the evidence is a photo of physical parts, but the photo's connection to final retail hardware remains a claim. Apple's September 9 event is the next scheduled point at which the palette could become official. 1
| Signal | Evidence | Confidence | What remains open |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dark cherry and sky blue are likely iPhone 18 Pro finishes | Sonny Dickson's photo of alleged SIM trays, reported by MacRumors | Medium | Final shade names, availability by market, and retail confirmation 1 |
| The third finish may be silver | Dickson's newer tray photo | Low to medium | Whether the tray is production hardware and whether black is also planned 1 |
| The third finish may be black | Fixed Focus Digital's claim, summarized by 9to5Mac | Low to medium | Original supporting evidence and Apple's final selection 2 |
What to watch next
- September 9 event materials: Apple's product page, keynote images, and technical specifications should settle the retail palette if Apple announces the iPhone 18 Pro models. 1
- Pre-order pages: The color selector and regional model listings will show whether the same finishes ship across eSIM-only and tray-equipped markets.
- More physical parts: A rear housing, camera ring, or matching accessory in silver or black would give the third-color dispute a second hardware clue.
