Listening practice: The shadow that reveals the Sun

First, listen to the whole story in English. Imagine standing outside on an ordinary day, when the Sun begins to lose its shape. The Moon is moving between Earth and the Sun, and, according to NASA Space Place, its shadow falls onto a narrow part of our planet. For people inside the darkest part of that shadow, daylight can suddenly become strange and dim. This is a total solar eclipse. It does not mean the Sun has changed. It means the Moon has blocked the Sun's bright face from our point of view. NASA reminds observers that looking at the Sun is not safe except during the brief total phase, when the bright face is completely covered.
