Apple Leaks Digest — August 1, 2026: Jeff Pu adds detail to the 2027 iPhone roadmap
Jeff Pu's July 31 research note adds a more specific iPhone Air 2 hardware package, independently repeats 9GB RAM for iPhone 18e, and estimates a $250-$300 price increase for the iPhone 18 Pro models.
Jeff Pu's latest Apple research note adds detail rather than a wholly new iPhone story: the iPhone Air 2 gets a more specific camera and chip package, the iPhone 18e's 9GB RAM forecast is repeated by a second analyst, and the iPhone 18 Pro picks up a sharper price-risk range. All three signals trace back to the same GF Securities note. MacRumors and 9to5Mac both reported it, so the second article is useful confirmation that the note exists and was read consistently, but it is not an independent second leak. 12
The iPhone Air 2's new increment is the component list
Jeff Pu expects the second-generation iPhone Air in the first quarter of 2027. His note keeps the phone in the same general size class, with a roughly 6.5-inch display, 12GB of RAM, and an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera. 1
A second rear camera has appeared in earlier iPhone Air 2 reporting. The fresh value in Pu's note is the resolution and the rest of the silicon package:
- A second 48-megapixel rear camera, specifically an Ultra Wide lens alongside the current Fusion camera. 1
- A slightly smaller Dynamic Island. 2
- An A20 Pro chip made with TSMC's 2-nanometer process. 9to5Mac also reports wafer-level multi-chip-module packaging in Pu's note. 12
- Apple's second-generation N2 wireless chip and C2 5G modem. 1
The second-camera direction is therefore not the part to treat as new. The useful increment is the combination of a named 48-megapixel Ultra Wide module with specific future Apple silicon and modem names. A named analyst's investor note is stronger than an anonymous social post, and the two outlets agree on the central hardware changes. But neither report supplies a prototype, supplier document, certification record, or Apple software identifier. Treat the feature list as a medium-confidence roadmap forecast, not a near-final specification sheet.
The 18e RAM claim now has a second analyst
The 9GB figure is not new: Ming-Chi Kuo reported it in June. The fresh increment is that Pu independently repeats the number and names the lower-end iPhone 18e specifically. MacRumors reports that Pu expects the model to move from 8GB to 9GB of RAM and launch by March 2027. 3
That number is not new to the Apple rumor cycle. Ming-Chi Kuo reported in June that the lower-end iPhone 18 models would use 9GB of DRAM, describing a 1.5GB-by-six-die arrangement instead of the current 2GB-by-four-die layout. MacRumors interpreted that group as the regular iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. 4
This is genuine cross-analyst agreement on the memory figure, but it is not same-day corroboration. Kuo's report is older, and neither analyst has shown a final component list. The safer conclusion is that 9GB has moved from a single-analyst claim to a repeated supply-chain forecast. The exact allocation, production status, and Apple Intelligence features that may depend on it remain open.
The Pro price signal gets a specific range
General component-cost and price pressure has appeared in earlier Apple leak coverage. Pu's new contribution is a concrete $250 to $300 range for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, tied to named chip and memory assumptions. The same Pu note puts the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at $250 to $300 above their iPhone 17 Pro equivalents. The current starting prices are $1,099 and $1,199, which would imply about $1,349 to $1,399 for the Pro and $1,449 to $1,499 for the Pro Max. 56
Pu attributes the estimate to higher costs for the A20 Pro chip, LPDDR5X memory, and NAND storage. 9to5Mac says the latter two components could cost Apple roughly three times as much as last year, but that remains the analyst's cost model, not a disclosed supplier quote. 6
The price range is worth watching because it turns a broad cost-pressure theme into a product-specific scenario. It is still the weakest claim in this issue: Apple can absorb part of the cost, change storage tiers, or set a different launch price. "$1,399" is an implied analyst range, not an Apple price leak.
How much weight to give this note
- High confidence: Jeff Pu issued or was quoted in a fresh GF Securities note with the claims above; MacRumors and 9to5Mac report the same underlying material. That is source confirmation, not independent product confirmation. 12
- Medium confidence: The iPhone Air 2 camera, chip, modem, and display changes, plus the 9GB iPhone 18e RAM figure. The claims are specific and the RAM number has an older Kuo match, but there is no production evidence. 34
- Low to medium confidence: The first-quarter 2027 timing and the exact iPhone 18 Pro prices. Both are forecasts that depend on Apple's production calendar and pricing decision. 15
What would confirm or weaken it
- A supply-chain report naming a second 48-megapixel module, the A20 Pro package, or the C2 modem would move the iPhone Air 2 claims beyond a note-based forecast.
- iOS 27 or device firmware exposing identifiers, memory configurations, or purchase-stage hardware references would strengthen the 18e and Air 2 claims.
- Apple inventory, carrier listings, or an event announcement would be needed before treating the launch windows as dates rather than analyst expectations.
- A final Apple price sheet or carrier catalog would settle the iPhone 18 Pro number; component-cost reports alone cannot do that.
This edition has no comparably specific fresh report for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, Vision Pro, or Apple software and services. The practical read is narrow: Jeff Pu's note is a useful early map for the 2027 lower-end iPhone lineup and a meaningful warning that the 2026 Pro models may face unusually high cost pressure, but none of the three claims is a shipping confirmation.
