Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they attacked a U.S. special-operations command centre at al-Tanf in eastern Syria, according to Iranian state media. Reuters said it could not independently verify the claim. A Syrian military source told Reuters the attack occurred near Tanf but did not hit the base, with no casualties or material damage reported. The Reuters update was published at 6:17 a.m. PDT, making this the latest new angle in the conflict before the cutoff. 3

Britain prepares for a change of prime minister

Andy Burnham was formally declared leader of Britain's governing Labour Party early Friday and is scheduled to become prime minister on Monday, after Keir Starmer tenders his resignation to King Charles III.
