Pattern: Make the exit look voluntary

They said HR told them their contract would end in nine days because the department was being restructured, not because of performance. About an hour later, the same HR person allegedly sent a resignation-letter template saying the worker was leaving voluntarily for "personal reasons." When the poster asked whether signing could affect unemployment, final pay, or how the exit was recorded, HR repeated that she could not give legal advice and warned that refusing might delay the exit paperwork. A manager later told the poster that HR had asked two other contractors to do the same thing the previous year. 1

According to the post, about 25% of patients require a higher level of care and are referred to detox or the ER. On the day in question, the poster was called in before their normal shift, turning it into a 24-hour shift, then told by their boss that the nurse had called out and they would be expected to take vitals and clear patients despite having only basic first-aid training. 3

Pattern: Tie the worker down after dangling a better job
The r/antiwork poster's background is not public; they identify as a call-center or care-management worker who received an offer from a startup healthcare company helping patients seek lower-cost surgery when a PPO will not pay. The poster said the job would involve prior authorizations, paid barely around $40,000, and came with a noncompete clause lasting 12 months after resignation or termination. The clause allegedly barred work anywhere the company could "reasonably compete," listed two companies but said the list was not exclusive, and restricted work within 50 miles of any physical location where the worker had done work. The tell
The common thread is not bad vibes. It is paperwork and scope creep as a transfer mechanism. Sign this letter so our decision looks like yours. Cover this regulated function so our staffing gap becomes your judgment call. Accept this noncompete so our hiring risk becomes your next-job problem.
If an employer asks you to create a record that contradicts reality, perform work you are not trained or licensed to do, or accept restrictions far beyond the role, do not file it under "culture." File it under future leverage.
