Service offers beat apps
A weekly Side Hustle Lab digest for July 6 to July 13, 2026, led by low-cash service offers and ranked against LINE stickers, Pinterest traffic, affiliate tools, API products, and SaaS flops.
The strongest start-this-week signal from July 6, 2026 09:24 through July 13, 2026 09:00 (UTC-05:00) was not another AI app. It was a plain service offer: find two paying clients, charge low at first, and use the work to build proof.
That does not make services easy. It does make the failure mode easier to see. If nobody will pay for the service, you find out faster than a builder who spends a year polishing a product and then discovers distribution is the real problem.
All revenue numbers below are self-reported and not independently audited. The ranking weights barrier-to-entry first, payout second, and proof quality third. The table keeps each report in its original currency to avoid pretending a rough conversion is more precise than the source.
Quick scan
| Rank | Experiment | Self-reported result | Startup cost / barrier | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Low-rate marketing agency | Kreated reported nearly $2,000 in the first 45 days, almost pure profit, after intentionally undercharging to win two paying clients and build case studies. 1 | Cash cost was limited to software subscriptions; sales and execution skill are the real barrier. 1 | Best fit for a 9-to-5 reader who already has a marketable skill |
| 2 | Podcast clipping service | A TikTok podcast clipper reported $1,800 last month and about $2,400 total since mid-May 2026. 2 | Startup cost, tool stack, time commitment, and client-acquisition path were not disclosed. 2 | Strong payout, weaker playbook; do not treat it as proven repeatable yet |
| 3 | Pinterest-to-blog traffic | mai_mogu said a blog that earned only a few hundred yen per month for years reached about ¥50,000/month after Pinterest became the main traffic source; the June report showed 4,238 outbound clicks from two Pinterest accounts. 3 | The reported operating load was about 1 hour per week per Pinterest account, but the blog already existed. 3 | Useful for people with old content, not a blank-page start |
| 4 | AI-assisted LINE stickers | AI Business Lab reported about ¥10,000/month from LINE Store alone after 3 months, and about ¥26,000/month when custom orders were included. 4 | Uses ChatGPT, image-generation tools, Remove.bg, Canva, and spreadsheets; review preparation is part of the work. 4 | Still startable, but last week already showed this is crowded and uneven |
| 5 | GPU affiliate comparison site | u/Nebyl_ reported about $200 personal earnings from 4,000 visits, 1,950 affiliate clicks, 29 Amazon orders, and $4,259.46 in ordered Amazon revenue since April 2026. 5 | Built with PHP, Amazon affiliate links, price scraping, SEO work, and Reddit distribution attempts. 5 | Good lesson, low cash return; platform spam risk is real |
| 6 | AI tool service cluster | ryo reported ¥53,000 in 45 days from Grok 3 X operations analysis, ¥39,000 in 45 days from Fliki blog-to-video work, and ¥52,300 gross from D-ID avatar videos. 6 7 8 | Tool subscriptions and client acquisition are required; each post also placed detailed breakdowns behind a ¥498 paywall. 6 | Watchlist, not a clean recommendation |
| 7 | B2B crime data API | u/Mnai reported a first paying customer at $199/month about one month after releasing a B2B crime-data and neighborhood-safety API. 9 | The product came after 4-5 years of work that began as a consumer app idea. 9 | First-dollar proof, but not a fast beginner path |
| 8 | Two API products | u/Jonathan_Geiger reported about $5,000/month combined MRR: SocialKit at about $3,300/month and PostPeer at about $1,700/month after 3 months. 10 | This was the founder's sixth product, with SEO, landing pages, free tools, support, and prior exits in the background. 10 | Strong business, high skill, not low barrier |
| 9 | One-year SaaS flop | u/__N1 reported 169 registered users, 236 Google clicks, 5,200 Google impressions, and only 6 paying users after about one year. 11 | Search rankings were also hit by a Google spam update, according to the author. 11 | Distribution risk in numbers |
| 10 | Field-service SaaS flop | u/Tasty-Specific-5224 reported 0 signups after 2 months of cold email for a field-service management platform. 12 | The author used multiple domains, 2 mailboxes per domain, warmup, capped sends, A/B tests, AI-rewritten emails, and lower-than-competitor pricing. 12 | The cleanest skip signal this week |
Services rank higher because they expose demand faster
Kreated ranks first because the experiment has a boring shape: sell a service, charge low, deliver, and get two real clients. The author reported nearly $2,000 in the first 45 days and said expenses were limited to software subscriptions. 1
The catch is that "marketing agency" is not a beginner skill. A 9-to-5 reader should translate the model, not copy the label. The useful pattern is a low-risk service offer around a skill you can already sell: landing-page cleanup, email setup, analytics repair, paid-search audit, short-form editing, spreadsheet automation, or a niche reporting service.
Podcast clipping has a higher claimed monthly number, but it gets a penalty for missing detail. u/Deep-Wealth8494 reported $1,800 last month and about $2,400 total since mid-May from clipping podcasts for TikTok, with one channel called Iron Clips and a top video at 1.1 million views. 2 The post did not disclose startup cost, client acquisition, country, tools, or weekly time, so the result is interesting without being a full playbook. 2
That matters because podcast clipping has shown up in prior Side Hustle Lab issues. A fresh $1,800/month claim keeps the category alive, but the missing operating details keep it below the cleaner service case.
The AI service cluster sits in the same service bucket, but with a credibility haircut. ryo reported ¥53,000 in 45 days for Grok 3 X operations analysis, with first-client revenue of ¥12,000 from 2 clients and later expansion to recurring contracts. 6 The same author also reported ¥39,000 in 45 days from Fliki blog-to-video work and ¥52,300 gross from D-ID avatar-video work. 7 8
The public numbers are usable, but the repeated same-author format and ¥498 paywalls mean this should be treated as a lead to inspect, not a model to buy into. If you test it, sell the outcome in plain language. "I will turn three existing posts into short videos" is clearer than "AI video agency."
Asset plays still need distribution
LINE stickers stayed active, but they should not lead this issue again. The new data adds range, not certainty.
At the high end, じゅざさん reported ¥111,029 in June LINE sticker distribution revenue and said the eighth month was the first month above ¥100,000. 13 AI Business Lab reported a smaller but more beginner-relevant path: about ¥10,000/month from LINE Store alone after 3 months, and about ¥26,000/month when custom work was included. 4 アケジ reported ¥34,044 in June, almost flat with May's ¥34,541. 14
The beginner and flop cases are just as important. アイアイ reported ¥2,709 in June sales across 67 units after about 2 months, and also said about half of that revenue was likely self-purchases. 15 57ai reported only ¥52 for July as of the July 8-12 diary run, with several zero-sales days after that first sale. 16 17 いろはにほへと reported 5 straight months of declining LINE sticker sales, without a readable public yen figure from the chart. 18
The practical read is blunt: LINE stickers are low-cash, not low-effort. The best operators treat stickers as small products with use cases, review prep, and repeated releases. Beginners should expect many tiny outcomes before one set proves demand.
Pinterest-to-blog monetization is another asset play, but the asset is a blog instead of a sticker catalog. mai_mogu reported June Pinterest data of 110,600 impressions and 3,795 outbound clicks for a beauty account, plus 31,600 impressions and 443 outbound clicks for a planner account. 3 The author said the blog had gone from a few hundred yen per month for 3 years to about ¥50,000/month after Pinterest became the main traffic source. 3
That is startable if you already have posts worth sending traffic to. If you have no blog, the first test is not "Pinterest monetization." It is one useful post, five pins, and a check on whether any outbound clicks arrive.
The GPU affiliate site is the cautionary version of the same idea. u/Nebyl_ built best-gpu.com in April 2026, used live Amazon prices for about 350 GPU models, and reported about $200 in personal earnings after about 4,000 visits and 1,950 affiliate clicks. 5 The author also reported bans from r/buildapc, r/pcmasterrace, and r/radeon after trying to distribute through Reddit replies. 5
The lesson is not that affiliate sites are dead. The lesson is that a helpful tool can still look like spam when distribution depends on another platform's tolerance.
Builder plays show the cost of delayed distribution
The B2B crime-data API deserves attention because it shows a good pivot. u/Mnai originally wanted US crime data for a consumer app, then realized the underlying data infrastructure might be the actual product. About one month after releasing the B2B API, the author reported a first paying customer at $199/month. 9
That is a real first-dollar milestone. It is also a 4-5 year path, so it should not be ranked as a quick side hustle. The useful move for a 9-to-5 reader is narrower: if you already have a messy internal dataset or workflow from another project, test whether the infrastructure is the thing someone will pay for.
Jonathan Geiger's API update is stronger as a business case and weaker as a beginner case. He reported SocialKit at more than 18,500 users and about $3,300/month MRR, while PostPeer was about 3 months old and at about $1,700/month MRR. 10 He also said this was his sixth product, with prior product sales of $15,000 and $7,000. 10
The transferable part is distribution timing. The author described SEO from day 0, including 1-2 blog posts per week, feature landing pages, use-case pages, competitor pages, and free tools. 10 That is the opposite of building quietly for months and hoping launch day fixes demand.
Two flops make that point harder. u/__N1 reported 169 registered users after about one year, but only 6 users had ever paid. The same post cited 236 Google clicks, 5,200 Google impressions, and a recent Google spam update that hurt rankings. 11
The field-service SaaS post was worse. u/Tasty-Specific-5224 reported launching in February 2026, running cold email from April to June, and getting 0 signups after 2 months. The author had used multiple domains, mailbox warmup, capped sends, A/B tests, AI-rewritten copy, migration help, lower pricing, and a built-out product. 12
That is the week's clearest skip signal. More features, lower price, and "done for you" migration still did not create demand in that campaign.
What to test this week
If you already have a sellable work skill, test a service first. Keep the offer specific, undercharge only if the case study is worth it, and ask for payment before adding process complexity. Kreated is the cleanest example in this batch because the business found clients before optimizing the product. 1
If you want a low-cash asset play, LINE stickers and Pinterest are still valid tests, but only with small expectations. LINE has ¥111,029/month upside in one reported case and ¥52/month pain in another. 13 16 Pinterest makes more sense when you already have content that can receive traffic. 3
If you are building software, make distribution part of the experiment before the product gets big. The two API products had SEO and free tools running early; the field-service SaaS had a bigger product and no signups. 10 12
The cheapest honest test is the one where your existing edge reduces the barrier. For most full-time employees, that means a small service offer before a product, a tiny asset batch before a catalog, and a distribution test before another feature.
