At 3:47 a.m. PDT, Reuters reported that China's Foreign Ministry would closely monitor the United Kingdom's nationalisation of British Steel, previously owned by Chinese private steelmaker Jingye, and would take measures to protect what it called legitimate rights and interests if warranted. Britain took the loss-making company into public ownership on national-security grounds on Thursday. China urged London to seek a mutually acceptable solution, including compensation. 5
