Li Auto starts new L6 deliveries as its RMB 249,800 volume bet reaches customers

Li Auto has begun handing over the refreshed L6 in four eastern Chinese cities at an unchanged RMB 249,800 price, putting its updated volume SUV into the market with RMB 28,000 in order-period benefits through August 31.

The L6 has reached customers

Li Auto began the first customer deliveries of the refreshed L6 on July 20, four days after the SUV's official launch. Manufacturing chief Li Bin handed over vehicles at a ceremony in Changzhou, while the first deliveries also covered Suzhou, Ningbo, and Hangzhou. That turns Li Auto's promise of deliveries within one week into a live rollout rather than a launch-date estimate. 1
The timing matters because the L6 is Li Auto's entry-level L-series SUV and a historic volume anchor. The outgoing model delivered only 915 units in June, down 94.44% year over year. CnEVPost reported that some buyers were waiting for the refreshed car, but the handover program now has to prove that the pause was temporary. 1

What buyers get for RMB 249,800

Li Auto kept the nationwide retail price at RMB 249,800, the same starting price as the previous L6. The refreshed range is centered on one AWD Ultra configuration, which makes the headline offer easier to understand than the outgoing Pro and Max split. 1 2

Size4,935 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, 1,735 mm high, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase. 2
The battery and charging changes are the most practical part of the refresh. The 51 kWh pack adds 88 km of CLTC electric range versus the outgoing model, while the range extender keeps long trips from depending on public charging. The suspension work is aimed at control as well as comfort: Autohome reports a 100% increase in maximum damping force, 30% less body movement, and 13.5% higher steering sensitivity. Those three chassis figures are manufacturer-reported targets, not independent road-test measurements. 2
The driver-assistance package also brings the L6 closer to Li Auto's flagship hardware. The standard car uses the same-generation Mach M100 chip marketed for the new L9, while the optional version adds perception hardware rather than forcing every buyer into a higher base trim. The final question is how many customers choose that option, because a well-equipped order can sit above the RMB 249,800 headline price. 1 2

The offer protects the entry price

Customers who place orders by August 31 qualify for benefits valued at RMB 28,000. The offer gives Li Auto a way to add equipment and purchase appeal without changing the published MSRP, but the company has not presented that benefit figure as a permanent price cut. Buyers and analysts should therefore separate the list-price signal from the equipment and promotion mix attached to early orders. 1
That price also puts the L6 alongside Li Auto's i6 at the same RMB 249,800 entry point. The two models offer different answers to the same family-SUV purchase: the i6 is battery-electric, while the L6 combines daily electric driving with a gasoline range extender and standard all-wheel drive. Li Auto now has to keep those choices distinct enough to expand its addressable market without simply moving buyers from one nameplate to the other. 2

Where the new L6 sits against rivals

Autohome identifies AITO M6 as a direct comparison. Its launch coverage gives the AITO a 355 km CLTC battery-only range and credits it with Huawei's 896-line LiDAR, Hongmeng cockpit, and Tuling platform, while describing the L6 as the lower-priced option. The L6 answers with a 300 km CLTC electric range, a 51 kWh battery, and a standard M100-based driver-assistance computer, with four-LiDAR hardware available as an option. 2
NIO ES6 and XPeng G9 represent a different comparison because they are battery-electric alternatives. For shoppers with reliable home or workplace charging, a pure EV can be the simpler choice. The L6's argument is for buyers who want electric driving on routine trips but still need a fast refueling fallback for longer routes. Its 300 km CLTC electric range makes that case more credible than the old L6, but the sales data will show whether the improvement is enough.
BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Audi Q5 remain imported luxury reference points rather than same-price rivals. The L6 is not selling badge parity with those SUVs. It is asking families to compare a RMB 249,800 technology and utility package with the higher cost of a traditional luxury badge, while AITO and the domestic BEV brands put more pressure on software, charging, and perception hardware.

The next delivery report is the real test

Li Auto delivered 30,895 vehicles in June, down 14.84% year over year, and the company posted a RMB 2.3 billion net loss in the first quarter as gross margin fell to 7.9% from 20.5% a year earlier. The L6 is therefore entering customer hands during a broader product and profitability reset, not a normal model-year transition. 1
The first delivery event answers one question: Li Auto can start handing over the refreshed car within the promised window. The next monthly data will answer the harder ones. Can the L6 recover from 915 units in June? How much of the RMB 28,000 order benefit converts into real orders by August 31? And does the new L6 add volume beside the i6, or pull customers from it?
Those figures will determine whether the refreshed L6 is simply a well-equipped replacement or the volume recovery tool Li Auto needs for its L-series reset.
