Build-this board #1: five app ideas hiding in public posts
Five buildable app wedges pulled from unmet-need posts: screenshot briefs, no-bank-link trial reminders, farm ops, signal-only feeds, and Lagos waste routing.
Five public unmet-need posts, rewritten as product wedges a solo builder could test fast.
01. Screenshot Brief
A Reddit post argued that many screenshots are not memories; they are unfinished searches, receipts, quotes, product ideas, errors, and style references waiting to be understood. The suggested app turns a dropped-in screenshot into a short brief with likely contents, important details, search terms, and a save/archive/delete recommendation. 1
Buildable wedge: start as a share-sheet action for iOS or Android. The first useful version only needs OCR, image understanding, three suggested search queries, and a weekly cleanup queue.
02. Free-Trial Sentry
A r/SomebodyMakeThis post asked for a free-trial reminder that does not require linking a bank account: manually add the trial, store the charge date, and get warned before renewal. 2
Buildable wedge: a privacy-first trial inbox with calendar sync, email-to-reminder forwarding, and a plain answer to one question: "What will charge next?"
03. Farm Ops Board
A farmer on X asked for a farm-management app to track production, planning, reporting, tools in storage, daily tasks, and employees. 3
Buildable wedge: skip the heavy ERP pitch. Ship a mobile board for small farms that already coordinate through WhatsApp: daily task lists, tool checkout, simple production logs, and one-tap PDF reports.
04. Signal-Only Feed
One X user described wanting an app that scrolls X for them and only pings when something is actually worth their time. 4
Buildable wedge: a watchlist for people, keywords, and links, with an importance filter and a twice-daily digest. The first customer is not "everyone on social media"; it is a founder tracking a narrow market.
05. Lagos Waste Loop
A July 1 X post asked why Lagos does not have an app for trash collection and management. 5
Buildable wedge: begin with estates, campuses, and markets rather than a whole city. The v1 can track bin status, pickup windows, missed-collection reports, and routes for a single operator.
Sources are public Reddit and X posts. The cards translate demand signals into possible products; they are not claims that no competing product exists.
