Hormuz normal traffic: 3%
Hormuz normal-traffic odds collapsed to 3%, with oil, Fed, BTC, France, and Fields Medal markets showing the week’s strongest Polymarket trade signals.
Data cutoff: July 13, 2026, 09:00 UTC-05:00 | Coverage window: July 6, 2026, 09:33:51 UTC-05:00 -> July 13, 2026, 09:00 UTC-05:00
Polymarket's cleanest weekly signal is now Hormuz. The July 31 market for Strait of Hormuz traffic returning to normal sits at 3% Yes on $16.07M of volume, with normal defined as a 7-day moving average of at least 60 transit calls in International Monetary Fund (IMF) PortWatch data. 1 That pricing lines up with the physical tape: Reuters reported that only six vessels crossed on July 12, the lowest level in five weeks, while tanker traffic through the strait fell to its lowest level since May 25. 2
The trade read is more direct than last week's peace-talk curve. Polymarket is pricing an impaired-shipping regime, Brent crude has already moved, and the rates market is treating oil as an inflation input rather than a background headline. Bitcoin (BTC) prediction markets and exchange-traded fund (ETF) flows improved, but this week the stronger cross-asset signal starts with oil and the Federal Reserve.
Market board
| Market / signal | Current read | Weekly move | Volume | Catalyst | Trade read |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hormuz traffic normal by July 31 | 3% Yes | Traffic still far below normal thresholds | $16.07M | Reuters reported six vessels crossed on July 12; the market resolves Yes only if the 7-day moving average reaches at least 60 transit calls by July 31. 1 2 | Oil volatility and shipping-risk hedges have cleaner signal than front-end diplomacy bets. |
| US-Iran nuclear deal by Aug. 31 | 9% on the August 31 leg | Down sharply from the July 6 checkpoint near 46% | $2.67M on the Aug. 31 leg | US-Iran fighting resumed, and Iran rejected terms that would reduce its control over Hormuz. 3 4 | Fade fast diplomatic normalization unless shipping data turns first. |
| Fed rate hike in 2026 | 59% Yes | +11pp from 48% on July 6 | $3.82M | June Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes were read as a hawkish hold; oil inflation risk rose at the same time. 5 6 | Rates-sensitive trades need Consumer Price Index (CPI) confirmation before treating July as live. |
| BTC July price board | 65% below $60K for July; 90% above $65K by year-end | Near-term July pricing stayed cautious while the year-end market stayed bullish | $8M July market; $47M 2026 market | ETF flows repaired, but the July market still prices below $60K as the most likely monthly outcome. 7 8 | BTC longs need ETF inflows to persist through the CPI and oil-volatility window. |
| French presidential election | Le Pen 28.9%, Philippe 28%, Bardella 3.5% | Bardella fell from 26% last week | $112.06M | The market moved from a Bardella-led right-wing read to a Le Pen / Philippe top tier. 9 | High-volume politics signal, but less immediate macro beta than oil or rates. |
Hormuz is the oil trade again
The catalyst stack is no longer a single clarification about whether talks count. On July 7, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and US Central Command struck roughly 80 Iranian targets on July 8 in response. 10 By July 11-12, ISW reported that US strikes had expanded to about 140 targets in one wave and more than 300 targets over three nights, including missile, drone, naval, radar, and air-defense assets. 4
Brent crude responded like the prediction market. The September 2026 Brent contract traded at $78.34 on July 13, up $2.33 on the day, and the weekly move from $72.16 to $78.34 works out to about +8.6%. 11 The day range reached $79.80, close enough to $80 that the next move depends less on another headline and more on whether physical traffic keeps falling. 11
The Yes case for Hormuz normalization is now narrow: Iran would need to accept a traffic arrangement that lets ships move consistently enough for the IMF PortWatch threshold to recover before July 31. 1 The No case has harder evidence. ISW assessed that Iran views control of Hormuz as a major strategic objective, while Reuters found traffic already down to two-month lows. 4 2
For traders, that keeps the cleaner expression in crude, shipping, insurance, and inflation-sensitive rates. The nuclear-deal market matters, but the price action is now downstream of Hormuz control.
Fed pricing split widened into CPI
The Fed setup moved in the same direction, but Polymarket and futures traders still disagree on magnitude. Polymarket puts at least one 2026 rate hike at 59%, up from 48% on July 6, while its by-July market sits at 22% and its by-September market at 49%. 5 12
The futures-linked read is more hawkish. Investing.com's Fed Rate Monitor showed a 37.6% probability of a July 25 bp hike and an 86.6% implied probability of at least one hike by December, based on only a 13.4% probability that the target range remains at 3.50%-3.75% through year-end. 13 That leaves a roughly 27.6pp gap between futures-derived year-end hike pricing and Polymarket's 59% Yes market. 13 5
The next catalyst is compressed. The June CPI release is scheduled for July 14 at 07:30 UTC-05:00, and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh testifies at 09:00 UTC-05:00 the same morning. 14 A soft core print would make Polymarket's cautious July pricing look better. A hot core print would move the futures market's hawkish read closer to the front of the curve.
BTC repaired, but confirmation is still missing
Crypto was constructive, just not strong enough to lead the week. Polymarket's Bitcoin board shows 65% odds that BTC ends July below $60,000, while the 2026 year-end market gives BTC a 90% chance of finishing above $65,000. 7 That split says traders are separating near-term macro pressure from longer-dated recovery odds.
The ETF tape supports the improvement case. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about +$197M in net inflows for July 6-10, with daily flows of +$265.7M, +$21.5M, -$84.9M, -$95.3M, and +$90.4M. 8 The Fear & Greed Index moved to 28, classified as Fear, after a 36-day Extreme Fear streak broke on July 6. 15
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, did not add another forced-selling headline. BitcoinTreasuries.net reported that Strategy neither bought nor sold Bitcoin during July 6-12, held 843,775 BTC, and raised about $466.7M through an at-the-market equity sale that lifted cash reserves to $3.0B. 16 That removes one stress point from last week, but it does not turn BTC into the primary signal while oil and CPI are setting macro conditions.
Two non-crypto watchlist markets deserve a scan. The French presidential market is liquid and volatile, with Marine Le Pen at 28.9%, Edouard Philippe at 28%, and Jordan Bardella down to 3.5% from last week's 26% checkpoint. 9 The Fields Medal market is closer to resolution, with Hong Wang and Jacob Tsimerman both at 94% and the International Congress of Mathematicians running July 23-30. 17
The highest-conviction setup remains Hormuz into oil and rates. BTC is tradable if ETF inflows persist after CPI, but the board is saying that the week ahead starts with shipping traffic, Brent, and whether the Fed repricing catches up to futures.
