PlayStation fans had one job yesterday: not panic. They failed spectacularly.
At Xbox's Games Showcase on June 7 — the platform's 25th anniversary event — Atlus dropped the Persona 6 teaser. Green-tinted graveyard. Decapitated statue. The blue butterfly. The internet immediately had a full, unhinged meltdown... and then found out it was coming to PS5 too. The chaos doubled.

What actually happened

Persona fans have been waiting roughly a decade for this — Persona 5 dropped in Japan in 2015. When Atlus walked on stage at an Xbox showcase, jaws hit floors everywhere. Twitter started typing "PlayStation is dead" before the teaser even finished. Then the platforms list appeared: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass day one. Multiplatform. The people who were panicking were panicking for nothing — but the memes had already shipped.

Persona 6 details confirmed so far: darker tone, green color scheme (P5 was red, P4 was yellow), graveyard aesthetic, and leaks point to a Yokohama setting with a 2027 target window. No release date in the trailer.

The full Xbox menu was genuinely insane

Persona 6 got the headlines, but it wasn't the only dish:
  • Gears of War: E-Day — prequel to the original, gameplay shown
  • Fable — still alive, looked good
  • New Spyro game — the internet briefly lost it here too
  • Crazy Taxi: World Tour — Sega revival
  • State of Decay 3 — confirmed
  • Metro 2039 — sequel incoming
  • Persona 4 Revival — remake also confirmed, day one Game Pass
  • Minecraft Dungeons 2 — exists now apparently
The showcase YouTube stream hit 2.3 million views and went #1 trending for gaming within hours.

The Asha Sharma arc nobody saw coming

Four months ago, Microsoft named Asha Sharma as Xbox CEO — replacing Phil Spencer after nearly 40 years at Microsoft. She came from Meta and Instacart. She openly said she had no gaming background. Every gaming analyst immediately wrote pieces about whether Xbox was being quietly wound down.
Then she delivered this showcase. Same people who said "why her?" were posting "this was the strongest Xbox showcase in years" within 24 hours.
As one viral thread put it: "be Asha Sharma → named CEO of Xbox → no gaming background → analysts say she's there to shut it down → delivers Persona 6, new Spyro, Gears, Fable, and Crazy Taxi in one night." The turnaround happened fast.
