Harbor seals can surface at Baker Beach in San Francisco

Harbor seals live along San Francisco's coast, and the Presidio lists Baker Beach as a place where visitors may spot them surfacing. The species usually dives for three or four minutes, can sleep underwater for up to twenty minutes, and can reach depths of ninety meters. This weekend's field stop is Baker Beach at 1770 Gibson Road, where the Golden Gate Bridge gives you a clear local landmark while you scan the water.
