AI application-layer startup radar: August 19–26, 2026
Ten application-layer financing disclosures totaled $154M across dollar rounds and €31.68M across euro rounds, with finance back-office products, knowledge-worker twins, and vertical workflow agents as the week's clearest diligence signals.
This week's application-layer scan covers August 19–26, 2026 (00:00 through 09:00 Pacific / UTC-8). Ten dated financing disclosures cleared the application-layer screen: nine early or newly surfaced rounds and one mature capital-market signal. Current-round totals are $154M across five dollar disclosures and €31.68M across five euro disclosures. USD and EUR are kept separate; no FX conversion is applied.
The densest cluster sits in finance and professional back office: Rillet's $100M Series C at a $1B valuation, Neno's AI-native SME suite, and Repodo's AI audit product from Lunar's former leadership. Alongside that, Twin1 raised a $20M seed to put a persistent AI twin behind each knowledge worker, while vertical workflow bets continued in construction tendering, eye diagnostics, commerce context, voice agents, and SMB growth agents.

Early and newly surfaced companies
Twin1 AI: persistent twins for knowledge work
Twin1 raised a $20M seed co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners, and Aramco Ventures, with additional capital from EJF Ventures, Tin Alley Ventures, AGI House Ventures, Neo, F-Prime Capital, Btech Consortium, Antiportfolio Ventures, Lakestar, Notion Capital, and angels including Wiz co-founder Roy Reznik. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe took a strategic stake. 1
The product pairs each worker with a persistent twin built from email, meetings, documents, and workplace systems, then answers and acts inside Slack, Teams, Outlook, Gmail, Drive, and SharePoint under the user's permissions. Above the individual twin sits a Twin Network coordination layer and an enterprise Model Context Protocol server for governed context access by other agents. 1
Founded in 2025 in San Mateo with a London team, Twin1 was started by Lewis Liu, Tom Cahn, Huiting Liu, and Jonathan Budd. Three of the four came from Eigen Technologies, the London document-AI company sold to SirionLabs in 2024 after raising more than $80M; Liu co-founded Eigen and led it through that sale. Named customers include Linklaters, Orrick, Dechert, Customers Bank, and Aegis Energy. Twin1 says customers report the platform handling 30%–50% of communications work those knowledge workers would otherwise do themselves, and cites a pipeline of more than 400 prospects. Both figures are company-reported. 1
Diligence should start with permissions: Twin1 describes six layers of rules-based and AI-based controls over peer-to-peer and peer-to-AI exchanges. The open question is whether the twin becomes the durable store of a worker's judgment, or remains a thin overlay on systems the customer already owns.
Guideless: training guides as structured workflow data
Lithuania's Guideless raised a €1M pre-seed led by Superhero Capital, with FIRSTPICK VC and angels including Vinted Group CEO Thomas Plantenga, Vinted Go CEO Vytautas Atkočaitis, and Vinted co-founder Mantas Mikuckas. 2
Co-founders Evaldas Bieliūnas and Dovydas Remeika built a product that captures software workflows step by step and turns them into editable, AI-narrated training guides, with text-to-speech in more than 40 languages. Guideless reports 3,000+ users, paying customers across 15 markets, and usage at Vinted, Masan Consumer Holdings, and the Nevada Hospital Association. It claims up to a 10x cut in the time needed to create or update training documentation; that multiplier is company-reported. The longer bet is that structured workflow captures become operational knowledge for agents rather than static help content. 2
Eyedentity: eye-cancer screening inside existing optician workflows
Stockholm's Eyedentity closed a €1.3M (SEK 15M) first round led by Norrsken Launcher, with Karolinska Institutet Innovation and angels. Co-founder and CSO Gustav Stålhammar is an ocular oncologist at St. Erik Eye Hospital and a professor at Karolinska Institutet; co-founder and CEO Mats Holmström previously worked on machine learning for cancer care at RaySearch Laboratories. The company was founded in 2025 and sits in the Karolinska Institutet Innovation Incubator. 3
The first application reads fundus images already captured in routine eye exams to flag uveal melanoma, without new imaging hardware. Eyedentity is live in a pilot with Swedish optician network Synologen and says the approach cuts false-positive referrals by 90%—a company-reported figure. Expansion plans cover diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma after Nordic commercialization. The diligence variable is clinical validation and deployment inside existing optician workflows, not model novelty. 3
Repodo: Lunar's former leadership bets on AI audit
Repodo raised an €8.2M pre-seed led by Hedosophia and Seed Capital—both prior Lunar backers—with other investors participating. The four co-founders are Ken Villum Klausen (former Lunar CEO), Peter Andreasen (former Lunar CFO), Joachim Strøjer Hansen (former Lunar CPO), and Anders Houmann, a professional auditor. All three Lunar executives have left their prior roles. 4
Repodo automates data collection, reconciliations, documentation, and transaction analysis while leaving final judgment and sign-off with qualified auditors. The company is launching in Denmark with a European expansion plan. Traction numbers for Repodo itself were not disclosed; Lunar's prior raise of more than €500M and customer base of more than 1 million people are background on the founding team, not Repodo metrics. The diligence question is whether auditors will let an AI product own the repetitive middle of the engagement without owning the liability. 4
Neno: AI-native back office for European SMEs
Amsterdam's Neno raised a €6.6M seed led by AlleyCorp, with Motive Partners, Firstminute Capital, and angels from Hugging Face, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Miro, Coinbase, PayPal, and Navro. Founder and CEO Nick Knuppe's team includes people previously at Mollie, Adyen, Remote, Plaid, Deloitte, BDO, and EY. 5
Neno combines accounting, tax, payroll, and business banking in one workspace and automates reconciliation, compliance, and reporting. It launched in the Netherlands in Q1 2026 and reports about 200 customers, including SOUS, FeedbackFruits, The Cirqle, and Y Combinator-backed Airweave and Rally. Company-reported operating claims include saving customers an average of 8 hours of admin work per month and cutting annualized accounting fees by 20%. Capital is earmarked for Neno Labs, Ambient AI development, and hiring in accounting, tax, and go-to-market. 5
Volve: construction tendering before the contract is signed
Oslo's Volve raised a $3M (NOK 30M) seed led by Skyfall Ventures, with J12, Norrsken Evolve, OBOS Ventures, Antler, StartupLab, and angel Daniel Kjørberg Siraj, the former OBOS CEO. Founded in 2024 by Herman Smith, Abyl Ikshanov, and Alf Jørgen Dovland, Volve helps contractors and public clients analyse contracts, drawings, requirements, and technical specs to decide whether to bid, how to price, and how to assess risk. 6
Volve says it is already used by main contractors and public clients across the Nordics and is building presence in the UK and Continental Europe; no customer count was disclosed. The company is rolling out a graph-based structure to retain knowledge across projects. Diligence should focus on whether Volve becomes the system where bid decisions and risk judgments are recorded, or remains an analysis sidecar to existing document workflows. 6
eComID: a shopping passport for AI commerce
Stockholm's eComID raised a €14.58M seed led by Systemiq Capital, with Regeneration.VC, Course Corrected, Stadium, returning investor CapitalT, strategic investor H&M Group, and angels including Truecaller co-founder Alan Mamedi, King co-founder Sebastian Knutsson, former Depop CEO Maria Raga, and Legora founder August Erséus. The company was founded in 2023; Oscar Rundqvist is co-founder and CEO. 7
eComID's Shopping Passport carries shopper context across connected brands so sizing, conversational search, and discovery start from known preferences rather than a cold session. Its AI shopping agent is called Vera. The company reports 60+ brands, 20 million shoppers per month, a 30% lower return rate for shoppers, and a 10% higher conversion rate for brands—all company-reported. Named partners include COS, J.Lindeberg, Axel Arigato, NN07, Peak Performance, Haglöfs, Asket, and Stadium. Compliance claims include ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type 2, and GDPR. 7
The diligence question is whether the passport becomes a portable identity layer brands depend on, or a personalization feature that each retailer can rebuild inside its own stack.
Ringg: voice agents past the phone call
India's Ringg (formerly DesiVocal) closed a $10M extension to its Series A from Peak XV Partners, bringing the Series A total to $15.5M. The product builds enterprise voice agents for phone, chat, WhatsApp, and browser-based support, with focus on healthcare appointments, cart recovery, and fintech onboarding. Founders Kali CV, Siddharth Tripathi, and Utkarsh Shukla started in text-to-speech, then moved up the stack when training proprietary speech models proved too expensive. 8
Ringg reports 20 million call attempts per month, operations across 1,200 clinics for Practo, about 40 employees, and customers including Cred, Flipkart, Practo, Groww, Policybazaar, and Shell. More than 70% of its business is voice calls. Those operating figures are company-reported. The company currently routes through an orchestration layer across models and aims to own more of the voice stack over time. 8
Runable: from building a business to growing it
Bengaluru's Runable raised a $21M Series A co-led by Susquehanna Venture Capital and Nexus Venture Partners, with Together Fund and Array VC participating, at a $65M post-money valuation. Co-founders Umesh Kumar and Saksham Sarda started as an AI infrastructure / browser-scraping company, then pivoted after users asked the agent to build websites and decks. 9
Runable's agent builds websites, apps, and presentations, then extends into ads, SEO, social, and presence inside AI chatbots for nontechnical small-business owners. Kumar said the company reached a $2M annualized revenue run rate within three weeks of launching payments in March, has about 1.7 million registered users, and saw users consume more than 1 trillion tokens over the prior 90 days, with 60%–70% of that usage from paying customers. Current revenue and paying-customer counts were not disclosed. Kumar also said gross margins are currently negative because Runable subsidizes inference. Closest named competitors are Manus and Genspark. 9
A TechCrunch product test found Runable still needed an external advertising account before it could spend an ad budget, with one exception: ads on ChatGPT through unnamed partnerships described as a "soft wedge." Diligence should separate registered-user scale from paid outcomes and ask how much of the growth workflow Runable can execute without the customer reconnecting third-party accounts. 9
Mature capital-market signal
Rillet: AI accounting reaches a $1B valuation
Rillet raised a $100M Series C led by Iconiq at a $1B valuation, with returning investors Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia. Total capital raised exceeds $200M. The round came together in less than 48 hours after an EY alliance and jumps in ARR and customer count, according to TechCrunch. Co-founder and CEO Nicolas Kopp leads the company; further founding-team detail was not disclosed in the cited article. 10
Rillet automatically and continuously pulls data from sources such as Salesforce or Brex and helps finance teams manage the books. It reports more than 600 company customers and says ARR doubled in the past three months—both company-reported. Iconiq general partner Seth Pierrepont framed the product as turning the general ledger from a system of record into an operating system for finance. Treat this round as a capital-market signal for AI accounting depth, not as a newly emerged startup. 10
Cluster notes for diligence
1. Back-office AI is attracting both early capital and late-stage confirmation
Neno and Repodo are early products that try to own accounting, tax, payroll, banking, or audit workflows. Rillet's billion-dollar Series C is the mature counterpart in the same category. The shared diligence test is workflow ownership: does the product become the place where books are kept, fees are calculated, or audit workpapers live, or does it remain an assistant sitting on top of NetSuite, Xero, or the audit firm's existing stack? 4510
2. Persistent context is the product, not the model
Twin1's worker twin, eComID's shopping passport, and Guideless's captured workflows each sell a durable representation of people, preferences, or procedures. Buyers still need to know who owns that representation, how permissions travel with it, and whether it remains useful when the underlying model changes. 127
3. Vertical workflows still clear the application-layer bar when they attach to a regulated or high-stakes step
Eyedentity sits inside optician screening. Volve sits inside construction bid decisions. Ringg sits inside high-volume customer calls. Runable sits inside SMB acquisition. In each case the diligence variable is the underlying workflow asset—clinical pathway, tender graph, call outcome, or paid growth action—rather than agent generality. 3689
Launch-positioning checkpoints
Mate Security: Gamebooks for agentic investigations
Mate Security launched Gamebooks, structured investigation procedures that set investigative intent—what must be checked, which evidence is required, which actions an agent may take, and when the agent must escalate—while leaving the execution path open. The architecture separates that intent from capabilities and flows so agents do not hold open access to real systems. Mate was founded in 2025 by Wiz and Microsoft veterans in Tel Aviv; Canaan Partners led a $35M Series A in July, and total funding stands above $50M. Gamebooks is generally available on the Mate platform. Treat this as a product checkpoint on agent control in security operations, not a new financing event. 11
Startup Due Dil: ten agents for VC information work
Vlad Tislenko, a partner at SMRK VC, launched Startup Due Dil, a web app that orchestrates ten AI agents to collect, verify, and structure diligence information from pitch decks and supporting documents. Nine specialist agents cover team, market, competitors, product, traction, business model, regulatory, ownership, and legal questions; an Oracle agent plans and reruns incomplete work. Tislenko said the platform cost less than €1,000 to build and produces an initial structured report in about ten minutes. No outside financing was disclosed. The product is a useful checkpoint for AI applied to investor workflow, with the open issue being error rates on confidential materials processed through third-party model APIs. 12

What to carry into deeper diligence
- Workflow ownership: Which system of record changes when the product succeeds—general ledger, audit workpapers, bid decision, call outcome, shopper identity, or twin memory?
- Context access: What data must be integrated and permissioned before the product is useful, and can the customer export the resulting history?
- Control and auditability: Can a customer inspect why an action was allowed, blocked, or signed off, especially in Twin1, Mate, Repodo, and Ringg?
- Deployment cost: How much clinical validation, construction-data onboarding, brand integration, or ad-account wiring is required before reported signals become recurring revenue?
- Evidence quality: Separate named customers and independent product tests from company-reported hours saved, conversion lifts, call volumes, and ARR doubling.
Sourcing and scope notes
Totals count only current-round amounts explicitly disclosed during the August 19–26 window, with USD and EUR kept separate. Rillet is labeled as a mature capital-market signal so its $100M does not read as a newly emerged company's debut. Historical Lunar, Eigen, and prior Series A amounts appear only as founding-team or cumulative context and are excluded from weekly totals.
The radar stays application-layer only. Excluded from this edition after review: Alice's $140M AI-security round (frontier-lab model testing and guardrails), Stability AI and other model-layer financings, physical-AI / data-center infrastructure, and Palette's €3M pre-seed (published August 11, outside the window). VentureBeat remained unavailable. Product Hunt individual product pages can be blocked; the daily leaderboard payload was used for launch-positioning checkpoints only.
Carry-forward: Stilta still shows no Series A beyond its May 2026 $10.5M seed. Catena Labs OCC charter remains unconfirmed pending a direct OCC.gov check.
