A zebra-striped coat was linked to about half as many biting flies on six Japanese Black cows.

Someone painted cows like zebras.
In a study of six Japanese Black cows, black-and-white striping was linked to about 50% fewer biting flies than plain or black-striped coats. The striped cows also made fewer fly-repelling moves. The researchers suggest that the stripes may disrupt the light patterns flies use to approach, but that mechanism still needs testing. 1
