Fez and Rue

Euphoria Season 3 finale. Rue is dying — a fentanyl overdose, a last hallucination, a drive to find Fez. She ends up at the old convenience store. And then a flashback: the two of them in a sunlit field, cracking beers, looking at the horizon. Simple. Unscripted. Never seen before.

The footage is real. Sam Levinson found it after Angus Cloud died — a forgotten test reel shot during Season 1 production on discontinued Kodak Ektachrome film. He said: "It's footage that never made it into the show. I thought, Oh, it'd be great to use that footage and just see him again — and see the two of them."

Angus Cloud died of an accidental fentanyl overdose on July 31, 2023. He was 25. The show is about fentanyl. The farewell used footage that existed before anyone knew it would be needed.

This is that moment. Performed as a nursery rhyme. No irony. Total sincerity. Just Fez and Rue stood in a field.
