The White House UFC slur that split X

Josh Hokit beat Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250 on the White House lawn on June 14, then used the post-fight microphone to make a false insult about Michelle Obama. CNN reported that Dana White called the line "nasty and false" while the White House did not condemn it. 12

The argument kept moving because the apology story became its own mini-cycle. A satire account posted that Hokit had formally apologized; Morning Honey later reported that no such apology appeared on Hokit's social accounts and identified the post as satire. 3

By June 18, the debate had shifted to who owed whom a response. Alexis Ohanian said on X that the slur was "vile and inappropriate" and that he had already left the event before it happened; People, Complex, and Fast Company all covered his statement. 4567

Critics argued the line was false and demeaning, and some called for an apology. Defenders framed the backlash as selective outrage and a free-speech fight.
