This week's main Twitter/X controversy: Hunter Biden's sudden, unfiltered return to social media — and the explosive discourse it's sparked across the political spectrum.
What happened? After years as a political liability largely absent from public conversation, the former First Son announced his return to X on May 19, 2026, with a pinned post that has now reached over 10 million views. Within days he was trading blows with Trump allies, joking about his own past drug use, and even sitting for a two-hour podcast with conservative commentator Candace Owens.
Why it's trending: His posts combine raw personal candor with sharp political attacks — a style rarely seen from someone with his profile. President Trump was directly asked about a potential Biden 2028 run during an Oval Office press huddle on June 4, and Biden responded on X within hours.
The numbers: 420,000+ followers in under three weeks. Individual posts reaching tens of millions of views. A Jake Tapper post that drew 4 million views in hours.
