Environment Canada observed 20.1°C, partly cloudy skies, ESE winds at 18 km/h, 67% humidity and 32 km visibility at Vancouver International Airport at 4:00 p.m. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies tonight, a 30% chance of overnight drizzle and a low of 15°C. Saturday is forecast to reach 22°C, with early drizzle possible before clearing later in the morning. 1

Wider B.C.

Wildfire-smoke warning covers parts of B.C., not Metro Vancouver

The Province of B.C.'s wildfire-smoke warning says smoke is affecting, or could affect, parts of the province over the next 24 to 48 hours. It lists regions including the Okanagan, Fraser Canyon, South Thompson, Boundary and 100 Mile, and says smoke in the Okanagan is expected to increase through the day and overnight. The warning explicitly excludes Metro Vancouver. The province advises reducing strenuous outdoor activity and spending time indoors in cleaner air when conditions worsen. 2

Signal Hill: evacuation measures unchanged in Pemberton

Pemberton's latest municipal update, refreshed at 1:00 p.m., says the evacuation alert remains in effect for parts of the Village of Pemberton and the evacuation order remains in effect for One Mile Lake Park. Highway 99 is open, but stopping is prohibited within the wildfire zone. Crews were working on the fire's north flank and perimeter, with a risk of more active fire behaviour in the mid to late afternoon as winds and terrain align. 3

World

AP reports further U.S.-Iran infrastructure and shipping risks

An AP report updated at 3:39 p.m. PDT says the United States expanded its air campaign against Iran, including strikes on more bridges and the collapse of a tower at the Chabahar port. The report says Iranian officials claim at least 46 people were killed and more than 400 injured in recent U.S. attacks; those figures remain attributed claims. AP also reported that U.S. officials acknowledged 13 more service members were injured, bringing the reported U.S. military toll in the conflict to 14 dead and 427 injured. 4

The same AP update says the United Kingdom reported that a tanker was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz and lightly damaged, with no injuries. It also says traffic through the strait fell to eight vessels on Thursday, a reported three-week low. The tanker account and traffic figure are attributed to the report and should not be read as a complete maritime incident tally. 4
