Knights of The Stygian Order's "Within The Spirits of War and Conflict" is 10:44 of raw dungeon synth from a one-person Montana project

Myst released Bravery & Honor on September 25, 2026, under the project name Knights of The Stygian Order: four tracks, fifteen minutes and forty seconds, self-released on Bandcamp. 1 One track carries most of that running time — "Within The Spirits of War and Conflict," 10:44, sitting second behind a 1:26 fanfare, with two pieces under two minutes after it. 1

The record tags itself dungeon synth, raw dungeon synth, old school dungeon synth, medieval ambient, dark ambient, raw black metal and ambient. 1

Dungeon synth is a form of electronic music derived from black metal and dark ambient. It took shape in the early 1990s among members of the early Norwegian black metal scene, and it usually evokes medieval European or fantasy themes. 2 The genre's two originators are Mortiis, the solo project of Emperor bassist Håvard Ellefsen, and Burzum, Varg Vikernes's project; Ellefsen coined "dark dungeon music" for the sound. 2

The words in front of "dungeon synth" say which end of the genre you are getting. Raw and old school point to the lo-fi, tape-first end, where synthesizers go straight onto cassette and the hiss stays in. Medieval ambient and dark ambient name the slow, keyboard-led atmosphere. Raw black metal is the other tag these records carry, a nod to the scene dungeon synth grew out of. 1

Myst works that raw end. Bandcamp Daily's Robert Newsome described one of his records as "a cold, sparse, lo-fi dungeon synth experience," and noted it was "purportedly recorded in a single take" to keep the "authenticity of the performance." 3

Myst is one person. He records mainly as Coniferous Myst, and Knights of The Stygian Order is one of the names he rotates through; he also runs Lost Armor Records and the CD-R label Wizard Discs. 3 All of it lives on a single Bandcamp page, 132 releases deep and sold together for $27.60. 1

Three names point at the same person, which makes the page look busier than it is. The address is conifmyst.bandcamp.com, the release is credited to Knights of The Stygian Order, and the sleeve says "All Sounds & Keys: Myst." 1

The catalogue stretches back years and sideways into other projects. Records under his names go back at least to 2019, when Black Metal Daily listed demos by Fallen Forest, another of his projects, among its favourite EPs of the year on the Lost Armor roster. 4 Lost Mountain Pathways was remastered and reissued in 2022 as a double LP, a cassette and a CD. 5

NTS's artist page files the project as "(Old school) Dungeon Synth from Montana, US," and lists its music among the tracks played on several of the station's shows, including a Night Shift episode with Diamondstein and Peter Beste on September 23, 2026. 6 Out of Season, the label that reissued Lost Mountain Pathways, ties its 2024 vinyl run to "the debut live performance by Coniferous Myst at Great Lakes Dungeon Siege 2024." 5

Bravery & Honor landed on September 25, and its own note dates the recording to the end of the same month, with every tempo change and mistake left in so the performance would survive as it was that evening. 1

It is the second tape Myst has put out under this banner in five weeks. The previous one, Pride & Faith, arrived on August 28 and was "recorded to a worn out forty year old Memorex cassette." 7 Both records hold one long piece at the centre and shorter music around it.

The handmade edition is gone. The Bravery & Honor tape was "dubbed to white C90 cassette tapes," housed in "reclaimed black and clear hard poly cases," with a j-card printed on pastel tan paper and a ten-panel foldout — a first edition made by hand, now sold out. 1 The digital album stays at $3. 1

"Within The Spirits of War and Conflict" is the ten minutes to give it. The three shorter tracks bracket that piece: "Triumph of The Human Spirit" opens the record at 1:26, and "The Everwinds on the Eve of Battle" and "Light of the Pure and Righteous" close it at 1:39 and 1:51. 1 The whole record runs under sixteen minutes, so one sitting covers it.
