IKEA Issue 12: a shelf that earns its footprint, plus four compact new finds

Five IKEA product pages are carrying the New label across the regional sites as checked on July 27: a narrow shelf, wall storage for an entryway, a six-box fridge system, a multicooker, and a patterned laptop sleeve. The strongest small-apartment idea is KLIPPKAKTUS: six lidded boxes are designed to fit on one fridge shelf, which is a rare case of a new product solving a very specific space problem. 1

The time-window caveat matters. IKEA's regional pages show current New status, but they do not expose a first-stocked date for every SKU. This is therefore a current-New watch for July 20–27, not a claim that each item first appeared on a dated day inside that window. The U.S., UK, Japan, and Sweden pages were all checked; Sweden is the Nordic-market reference here. 2345

Best for: a small living room, bedroom, or WFH corner that needs vertical storage without the visual weight of a full bookcase.

Decision: Buy if you want a 60-cm-wide display shelf and like the idea of a bright accent colour. Skip if you cannot anchor furniture to the wall or need deep shelves for large storage boxes.

The BAGGEBO is 60 cm wide, 30.3 cm deep, and 80 cm high, with a stated maximum load of 12 kg per shelf. Its steel frame and mesh shelves suit books, plants, and small boxes rather than bulky equipment. IKEA calls the bright-green version a limited-edition colour and includes adjustable feet for uneven floors. 7

Price and regional status: $24.99 in the U.S., £19 in the UK, and ¥3,499 in Japan. The exact bright-green listing was not confirmed on the Sweden page. Each of the three confirmed pages showed the product as New; live store stock still depends on location and was not exposed without a postcode. 678

Assembly watch-out: IKEA supplies an assembly guide but does not publish a difficulty rating or time estimate on these product pages. Budget roughly 20–30 minutes for the shelf itself, then allow extra time to anchor it. The wall-fixing warning is explicit, so this is not a safe freestanding choice for a rental where drilling is off-limits. 6

Best for: a narrow entryway, the side of a wardrobe, or an office wall that collects bags, mail, and cables.

Decision: Buy if you can use the wall. Skip if you want a freestanding organiser or do not have suitable screws and anchors for your surface.

This is five identical wall pockets, each roughly 58 × 17 × 28 cm. IKEA describes the set as flexible storage for shoes, hats, mail, and magazines, with the same width across the three GREJIG functions so the pieces line up when combined. The useful part for a studio apartment is the depth: it adds a place for small items without consuming floor area. 10

Price and regional status: $35 in the U.S., £30 in the UK, ¥3,995 in Japan, and 395 kr in Sweden for a blue variant. The U.S., UK, and Japan pages carry the grey set as New; Sweden's new listing is the blue set with a different article number. Store-level stock was not confirmed. 9101112

Assembly watch-out: IKEA calls the installation minimal, but the set still means five wall-mounted pieces. The product pages do not give a step count or time estimate. Plan for about 30–45 minutes if the wall is ready, and treat the choice of anchors as part of the job. 9

Open the GREJIG product page.

Best for: one-person kitchens, meal-prep leftovers, and anyone whose fridge has plenty of food but no usable zones.

Decision: Buy if your fridge has a shelf with at least 44 cm of internal width. Skip if you have a compact integrated fridge with narrow shelves, or if you dislike handwashing plastic storage.

The set contains four 1.6-litre boxes, one 3.2-litre box, and one 4.7-litre box, all with lids. IKEA says the six boxes are designed to fit on one shelf in most standard freestanding fridges. The transparent PET makes the contents visible, while the lids allow stacking and a note can be fixed under each built-in handle to track storage dates. 1

Price and regional status: $24.99 in the U.S., £15 in the UK, ¥1,999 in Japan, and 199 kr in Sweden. All four regional product pages showed the set as New; none exposed store stock without a location check. The exact shelf fit is the part to verify before buying: IKEA warns that integrated-fridge shelves may be smaller. 1131415

Assembly watch-out: None. This is a one-package, open-the-box-and-organise purchase. The trade-off is care: IKEA says to handwash the boxes and wipe them dry. 1

Open the KLIPPKAKTUS product page.

Best for: a one-person kitchen, dorm room, or small flat where one appliance needs to cover rice, soup, steaming, and slow cooking.

Decision: Buy if a 2-litre usable capacity matches the way you cook. Skip if you need a large family-sized pot or a deep-fry function: IKEA says this appliance is not suitable for deep-frying.

The black TILLREDA has a 3-litre inner pot with a 2-litre maximum usable capacity, a separate steamer, a detachable lid, and 14 preset programmes. The list includes rice, sauté, steam, bake, boil, yoghurt, soup, stew, porridge, oatmeal, and bread rise, alongside manual mode, keep warm, and slow cook. It measures 21.6 cm high by 25 cm in diameter. 16

Price and regional status: £85 in the UK and 1,195 kr in Sweden. The U.S. and Japan prices for this multicooker were not confirmed in this pass. The UK and Sweden pages show New, but live stock was not available without a location check. 1617

Assembly watch-out: No furniture assembly. IKEA describes it as plug-and-play, but setup still means reading the programme and safety instructions. The appliance weighs about 3.7–3.9 kg in its package, so keep it somewhere you can lift and store without sacrificing the only clear counter space. 16

Best for: WFH commuters, hot-deskers, and small apartments where the laptop needs to disappear into a drawer after work.

Decision: Buy if your laptop is 14 inches or smaller and you want a very cheap protective sleeve. Skip if you carry a charger, notebook, and mouse in the same case: this is a sleeve, not a workstation bag.

The case is sized for a 14-inch screen and measures 35 × 3 × 26 cm externally. The bag and strap use recycled polypropylene, with polyethylene foam padding and a polyester zip. The product page lists a 0.06 kg package weight, which explains why this is better for protection from scratches and knocks than for carrying a full office kit. 18

Price and regional status: £3 in the UK and ¥399 in Japan. The exact patterned 14-inch case was not confirmed on the U.S. or Sweden pages. Both confirmed pages show New; stock still requires a local availability check. 1819

Assembly watch-out: None. The case is ready to use, but IKEA says not to wash, tumble-dry, iron, or dry-clean it. Wipe it with a damp cloth instead. 18

Open the ROMELSÖN product page.

Choose BAGGEBO if you need a small shelf and can anchor it. Choose GREJIG if the wall, rather than the floor, is your missing storage zone. KLIPPKAKTUS is the most convincing one-person-kitchen pick because its shelf-fit constraint is clear and measurable. TILLREDA replaces several small cooking tools but needs a permanent counter or storage spot. ROMELSÖN is the easiest WFH buy, provided your laptop actually fits.
