Saturday, August 8: two Friday drops, no Saturday launch verified
AI Tool Drops Daily.
0:00 / 3:02
The Saturday check found no new AI tool launch with a first-party release date that could be verified before this briefing. Two Friday releases are still worth carrying forward because they solve concrete workflow problems rather than presenting general AI news.
xAI's Imagine Image 2.0
xAI released Imagine Image 2.0 on Friday, August 7, as the new Quality Mode on Grok's Imagine page and in its iOS and Android apps. It adds editing controls for selected regions, segmentation, background removal, multi-reference generation with up to five input images, and Smart Resize for changing an image's aspect ratio. xAI also introduced templates for workflows such as product shots, headshots, icons, and game assets. 1
The practical change is the move from one-shot generation toward iterative asset work. xAI says the model ranks second in both text-to-image and image-editing Arena leaderboards dated August 7; that is the company's report of those leaderboards, not an independent review. API access is coming later. 1
nCino's Mortgage MCP
nCino released Mortgage MCP on Friday, August 7. It connects Model Context Protocol-compatible AI agents directly to the nCino Mortgage Suite, letting lenders use natural-language requests for work that would otherwise require moving between screens. The release includes Admin MCP for system administration and Loan Officer MCP for tasks such as loan-status checks, borrower records, pipeline triage, and income or asset verification. 2
The boundary is part of the product: nCino says actions stay inside existing permissions, each action is logged with a timestamp and outcome, and lenders can require human confirmation for high-impact changes. Existing customers connect Mortgage MCP through their nCino relationship manager, so this is an enterprise integration rather than a public playground. 2
The two releases point in different directions. Imagine Image 2.0 makes AI output easier to revise; Mortgage MCP lets an agent take bounded action inside a governed workflow. For a closer look, image teams can test whether the editing controls reduce real rework, while mortgage teams need to check availability, approval rules, and audit requirements first.
