208 upvotes for TJ's new vinegar chips
Trader Joe's Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips with Avocado Oil led this week's grocery arrivals with strong Reddit approval, a $2.99 price point, and a low-risk try-it verdict for snack shoppers.
208 upvotes, a 99.1% upvote ratio, and 51 comments put one Trader Joe's snack clearly ahead this week: Trader Joe's Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips with Avocado Oil. The r/traderjoes post was published June 30 with the community's [NEW] 2026 product flair, and the bag is priced at $2.99. 1
The short decision: buy one bag if you already like sharp salt-and-vinegar chips. Skip if vinegar bite is not your thing, or if you are hoping for a sweet-savory Trader Joe's snack like the old honey butter chips.
What it is
Trader Joe's Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips with Avocado Oil are a new snack item in a 7 oz (198 g) bag, based on the package photo shared in the Reddit post. The same post says the chips replace the discontinued Hawaiian Style Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips, with avocado oil as the new hook. 1
Availability looks broad rather than regional: the post came from the r/traderjoes new-product tracker, and no regional-only caveat appears in the product thread. 1 Treat that as a good sign, not a stock guarantee. Trader Joe's snacks can still disappear from individual stores between deliveries.
Why this beat the other new arrivals
Trader Joe's had a stronger week than Costco for confirmed new grocery finds. The closest runners-up were Peach Black Tea Drink Concentrate at $2.99 and the Garlic Parsley Potato Kit at $3.69, both also posted June 30 with new-product flair. The tea concentrate had 127 upvotes and 22 comments, while the potato kit had 101 upvotes and 8 comments. 23
The chips won because the reaction was both larger and cleaner: more upvotes, more comments, and fewer visible objections than the other confirmed Trader Joe's launches. Costco did have a Magnolia Tropical Ube Ice Cream sighting at $7.89, but that report was tied to Richmond, California, with no broader location confirmation in the available comments. 4
Community verdict
The most decision-ready comment came from u/JGDC: "These are so good, I've had to forcibly stop myself from finishing the whole bag today." 5 That is exactly the signal a snack pick needs: someone bought it, opened it, and immediately ran into the one-bag problem.
Other reactions were shorter but still positive. u/CatStrict468 replied, "YES PLEASE!!!" and another commenter asked Trader Joe's to bring back honey butter potato chips, which suggests the launch is also being read against the chain's discontinued-chip nostalgia. 5
Buy, try, or skip?
- Buy if you like aggressive salt-and-vinegar chips and want the week's clearest Trader Joe's snack signal.
- Try if avocado oil matters to you, but do not expect the oil choice alone to make this a health food.
- Skip if you mainly want sweet, buttery, or mild chips. The community excitement is about vinegar-forward snackability, not subtle flavor.
At $2.99, the downside is low. 1 The best move is to grab one bag on your next Trader Joe's run, taste before buying multiples, and check the shelf tag if you care whether this becomes a regular item or a short-run replacement.
