Orshot Reached $10K MRR on Listings Inside Other People's Tools

Orshot, Rishi Mohan's one-person image, PDF and video generation API, crossed $10,000 a month in October 2026; this teardown works out how a $39–$349 credit ladder, a renewing free tier and dated listings inside n8n, Webflow and Claude's directory turned roughly 200 customers into $10,855 a month.

On October 29, Rishi Mohan posted that Orshot had crossed $10,000 in monthly recurring revenue that week. The same post counted 28,000-plus users and 1.3 million images, videos and PDFs generated for them. 1

Six weeks earlier the same account had been blunter. "its kinda funny i'm 1.5 years into building Orshot and i still haven't figured SEO, distribution and retention," Mohan wrote on September 18. 2 Two days later he added that he had been experimenting with many ways to grow Orshot and that nothing had worked significantly. 3
Both statements describe a business that doubled its revenue this year. In March, the one-year post put Orshot at $5,000 a month. By the milestone it was $10,259, and by November 4 the dashboard read $10,855. 45
A founder who says he has not solved distribution, with revenue that doubles anyway, is the interesting case. The public record says exactly where Orshot is sold. It also shows how much of that surface he controls, which is the part another solo founder should price in before copying anything.

Divide $10,855 by 200 customers and the average account is worth about $50 a month. That single number governs the pricing, the product and the growth story that follow.

Origin: a screenshot tool's inbox

Mohan began as a designer and spent four years running Pika, a $15-a-month screenshot and mockup editor for marketing teams. 1011
Pika put him in front of the customer Orshot now sells to: marketers and designers who need hundreds of on-brand images at a time.
The requests that arrived through Pika's support channel described the missing half of that job. Teams wanted the output produced for them, from a data source, without anyone opening a design tool. 10
Orshot was built to be that second half. A template is designed once, its parts are named, and then a spreadsheet row, a webhook or an agent fills those parts in. 4
His pain arrived through a support queue, which is the cheapest place a solo founder can find a product.
The first year ended with 4,000-plus users, 100-plus customers and $5,000 a month. 7 Seven months later the same business counts 33,062 users and 200-plus customers. 56 Users grew eightfold while paying customers doubled, and the space between those two curves is the conversion problem the dashboard now reports as 0.41%.

The wedge: the buyer is a workflow

The product's centre is the template. Every text layer, image slot and colour becomes a parameter that the API can set from outside. 6
One call returns one file: an image, a PDF page, or a second of video. 9 That unit is the decision everything else in the business hangs on.
Four choices explain why teams pick this over the design tools they already pay for.
Orshot renders inside n8n, Make, Zapier, a backend or an agent session, so the finished asset lands wherever the work already happens. 12 Inside an agent, the buyer asks in words and gets a finished file back.
One design then covers every format. Smart Resize adapts a template to each size, and the same template renders video with audio, captions and transitions. 13
The output can also post itself. Publishing to 15-plus social platforms runs on the same API call, sold as a separate add-on. 9
A fourth mechanic aims at agencies. The Studio can be embedded inside another company's product, with embed-user limits of 50 to 100 on Grow and 500 to 1,500 on Scale. 9 An agency can hand the editor to its clients and keep the render pipeline, which is how a $349 plan becomes ordinary spending.
What that shape produces in practice is in the milestone post's customer list: ClickUp generating yearly wrap banners for 100,000-plus users at 300 banners a minute, Brendi producing branded marketing images for 5,000-plus restaurants in Brazil, CreatorCore automating 100,000 visuals for influencer campaigns. 4
Those are jobs with a volume and a deadline, which is why a per-unit price works on them.

Pricing: free credits that renew and steps that quadruple

This is where the $50 average comes from. 9
The free plan costs $0 forever and renews 100 credits every month, with no card. A credit is one image, one PDF page or one second of video, so free covers roughly 100 images a month.
Launch is $39 for 1,500 credits, Grow is $160 for 20,000, and Scale is $349 for 75,000. Per thousand credits that works out to $26, $8 and $4.65. The first step charges four times as much for thirteen times the volume; the second charges 2.2 times as much for 3.75 times the volume.
That ratio is the ladder doing the selling. A buyer who outgrows Launch is choosing between $160 and the work of moving the integration elsewhere, with thirteen times the volume on the other side.
Annual billing gives two months free, which turns a monthly decision into a prepaid year of credits. 9
The page currently carries a Black Friday offer of 25% off for 12 months, running until December 1. 9
Two rules shape how the credits behave. Unused credits expire at the end of each billing month. The refund window is 24 hours, and it closes once half the allowance is used. 9
Social publishing sits outside the ladder at $12 a month per connected account, which turns one customer with five accounts into a $60 line item. 9 And the earliest customers keep their original price: "Every early customer still pays what they signed up for," Mohan wrote in the milestone post. 4
The Orshot pricing page showing a free plan and three paid cards at $39, $160 and $349 a month, with credit allowances of 1,500, 20,000 and 75,000, plus a $12 per social account add-on
Three tiers on November 4, 2026, with the annual toggle that shows two months free, a credit slider above the cards, and the per-account publishing add-on below them. Captured November 4, 2026. 9
At roughly $50 an account, most of those 200 customers sit near the entry price, with a small number of heavier accounts carrying the rest. Growing revenue from here means moving existing buyers up that ladder, or selling them more connected accounts. At the same average, $50,000 a month would take a thousand accounts like these.

Acquisition: inside other companies' directories

The first channel is a set of listings in tools the buyer already runs, and each one has a public date.
Webflow's App Marketplace listed Orshot on August 19, 2026, with backfills for existing CMS items. 14 Claude's connector directory accepted it on September 30, after what Mohan described as about six weeks of back and forth. 15
The agents page now shows the full shape of that bet: a hosted MCP endpoint, and setup guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Lovable, Replit, Warp, Zed and six more. 12
Every one of those surfaces belongs to another company, and every one has a reviewer with a queue. Mohan published his queue time as six weeks, which is the entry price of this channel. 15
The second channel is content written for people already searching for the job they have. Orshot's blog runs 18 automation tutorials, 34 product updates, 13 developer guides and 11 agent guides. 16
Among those pages are the ones a buyer types when a rival disappoints: an Ayrshare alternative, a guide to bulk-creating from Canva templates, a roundup of the best MCP servers for marketing. 1617
The template library is the third surface, with 2,000-plus public templates that a visitor can render before paying anything. 13

Channel attribution is the number the public record skips. Orshot states where it is listed and stops there, so nothing separates a signup from n8n from a signup from the Claude directory. Mohan's own September posts back that gap: he had been running experiments for months, and by his account none of them worked significantly. 3
What the dashboard does publish is a conversion rate: 0.41% over the last 90 days, with no definition of what counts as a conversion. 5 Set that beside 200-plus payers and 33,062 users and you get a wide top with a thin paid layer, whichever measure you use.
The free plan changed to 100 credits every month on September 21, 2026, five weeks before the milestone. 18 The record leaves that change's effect on signups unstated.

Replication checklist

  1. Sell the render and give the editor away as setup. Pika sells a place to make an image; Orshot sells the image without the place. 10
  2. Name one unit that covers every output. Image, PDF page and video second all cost one credit, so the buyer's mental arithmetic stays simple as formats change. 9
  3. Price the entry tier at what one person can expense, then quadruple it on the next step. A single marketer can approve $39; growth then arrives through their volume. 9
  4. Renew a free allowance instead of ending a trial. A monthly 100 credits keeps a stalled user able to come back in three months with no sales work. 9
  5. Get listed inside the tools your buyer already runs, and budget the review queue. Six weeks for one directory is the real cost of that channel. 15
  6. Ship the integration before the marketing page. The n8n, Webflow and MCP surfaces exist so the product can be found where the work is. 12
  7. Write the comparison and tutorial pages your category already searches for. An alternative page and a bulk-workflow tutorial catch demand the brand cannot create. 16
  8. Publish a dashboard and keep it running. Every later milestone gets a number to point at, and strangers can check your arithmetic. 5

Honest assessment: what a cold start cannot rent

Four years of the same buyer. Pika was already selling a $15-a-month marketing tool to the people who would need Orshot. 11 That list had a reason to pay attention to his next product, and no other asset in this business took as long to build.
A designer who could build the editor himself. The wedge rests on a Studio close enough to Figma and Canva that a marketer will design in it, with a render API behind it that developers trust. Mohan wrote the Studio, and by his anniversary post he had moved his own design work into it. 7
Shipping volume. More than 80 product updates in the first year, and 807 commits in the 30 days before November 4. 56 The promise that a customer request ships the same week is a promise a one-person company can keep and a team of twelve usually cannot. 4
Nineteen months of small increments. The last seven moved the business from $5,000 to $10,259, roughly $750 of net new recurring revenue a month. 47
A 2026 directory window. Claude's connector directory, ChatGPT's plugin shelf and the coding agents are new surfaces, and the cost of entry was review time. 15 That door is open because the platforms wanted connectors this year.
What stays private is what a buyer of this business would ask first. Churn, acquisition cost, plan mix, gross margin after render compute, and whether those 200 customers are monthly or annual are all unpublished. 6 The 0.41% conversion figure also arrives without a definition, so it can describe anything from signup to paid.

Three lessons that generalize

  1. Meter the output, then let volume set the price. The cost of a thousand credits falls from $26 on Launch to $4.65 on Scale, so a customer who grows does the upselling without a sales call. 9
  2. A listing inside someone else's tool is distribution with a gatekeeper. It reaches buyers where they already work, at a cost of six weeks of review and a dependence the platform controls. 15
  3. A public dashboard is a marketing asset that compounds. Every milestone post after it gets a number to point at, and an outsider can check the claim without trusting the founder. 5
