The Global Chess League is opening in Bengaluru, Faustino Oro has become the world's youngest current grandmaster, and the European Senior Team Championship has crowned winners in both age sections. The FIDE presidential race has also moved into a formal complaint stage before the September 26 vote. 1234

The fourth Tech Mahindra Global Chess League season began with its opening ceremony at Bengaluru Palace on September 4. The first round is scheduled for September 5 at 13:00 Sofia time at The Lalit Ashok, after the published local start of 15:30 IST. The season runs through September 13. 1

Magnus Carlsen is back after missing Season 3, and he returns as the Icon for defending champions Alpine APL Pipers. Viswanathan Anand has moved to PBG Alaskan Knights, where he leads a team that also includes Arjun Erigaisi, 15-year-old Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş, and Abhimanyu Mishra. 1

Each match uses six synchronized boards: one Icon, two Superstar men, two Superstar women, and one Prodigy. A Black win scores four team points, a White win scores three, and a draw scores one. The rapid time control is 20 minutes per player, with the two-second increment beginning after move 40. The colour assignment applies across the match after a coin toss, so a team's colour can change the value of every result on its score sheet. 1

FIDE has officially awarded Faustino Oro the grandmaster title. The Argentine is 12 years, six months, and 26 days old by the age calculation reported by Chess.com, making him the youngest current grandmaster. Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş had held that distinction after earning the title at 12 years, nine months, and 29 days. Abhimanyu Mishra remains the youngest player ever to qualify for the title, at 12 years, four months, and 25 days in 2021. 2

Oro completed the title requirements with 6/9 in the 158-player Sardinia World Chess Festival open, which included 29 grandmasters. His next over-the-board test is Legends & Prodigies II in Madrid, where he will face David Antón, José Martínez, Ivan Sokolov, Diego Flores, and José Cuenca in a six-player double round-robin. The event has ten rounds, uses 60 minutes plus a 30-second increment, and counts toward the standard rating list. 26

The European Senior Team Championship ended in Hersonissos, Crete, on September 4 after nine rounds. England 1 won the 50+ section with 17 match points, ahead of Italy on 16. Slovenia won the 65+ section on the tiebreak after finishing level with England 1 on 16 match points; Italy placed third on 15. 3

Slovenia's title came after a 4–0 final-round win over SG Riehen Switzerland, which lifted Slovenia above England 1 on tiebreak. England's 50+ team finished with eight wins, one draw, and no losses. 3

Chess.com reported that the Electoral Commission had received formal complaints from all three presidential tickets: Jan Henric Buettner with Malcolm Pein, Wadim Rosenstein with Gordon Tang, and Timur Turlov with Viswanathan Anand. The respondents had filed legal responses, while no commission report had been made public as of September 2. 4

The immediate dates are September 9, when the three candidates are scheduled to meet in a Chess.com debate, and September 11, the latest date for a final eligibility decision under the rules cited in the report. FIDE's presidential election is scheduled for September 26. 4
