In American lobsters, urine leaves through nephropores at the base of the antennae and rides the forward gill current. Breithaupt, Lindstrom and Atema catheterized freely moving adults and found release is intermittent and context-controlled: the hourly chance rose from a median 0.34 when alone to 0.63 during fights, and mean volume on output hours rose from 1.09 ml to 1.88 ml with another lobster present.
