Stanford alumni pulse, Sep. 14–21: two AI seed rounds on the same day

The week of Sep. 14–21, 2026 produced two verified career events from Stanford's computer science and engineering network, both seed funding rounds announced on Sep. 16. Five people appear in them: the founder and the incoming board member at Hang Ten Systems, and the three co-founders of Aristotle. 12

Hang Ten Systems announced a further $53 million in seed funding on Sep. 16, led by Xora, the early-stage investment platform backed by Singapore's Temasek. Mayfield, which led the company's first round, and Aramco Ventures also participated, and Hang Ten puts its total raised across the two rounds at $85 million. The first round, $32 million, was announced on June 24. 13

Vishal Sikka founded Hang Ten in May 2026 and runs it as chief executive. He holds a doctorate in artificial intelligence from Stanford, spent 12 years at SAP, where he sat on the executive board, and led Infosys as chief executive from 2014 until 2017. He founded the enterprise AI company VianAI in 2019 and left it in April 2026. 34

Hang Ten sells advisory, transformation and applied-AI services to large enterprises, building and maintaining their software with teams that run AI agents. TechCrunch reported that its customers include Fresenius Kabi, Saudi Aramco and Siemens Energy, that the company typically works with businesses earning more than $10 billion a year, and that it employs about 20 to 25 people. Between the two rounds Hang Ten said it signed several multi-million-dollar contracts, and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has widened the scope of its work with the company. 13

The Sep. 16 announcement says Jerry Yang has joined the Hang Ten board of directors. Yang co-founded Yahoo! in 1995 and is a founding partner of AME Cloud Ventures, and he holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford. TechCrunch's June 24 report on the launch described the board as already including Yang, so the date his board seat began remains open in the public record. 1567

For an applicant reading the network, this entry pairs a Stanford AI doctorate with a four-month-old company of roughly two dozen people that has raised $85 million to sell AI-delivered software into the industry its founder once ran. 38

Aristotle raised $5 million in seed funding, announced on Sep. 16 and led by True Ventures, with Wicklow Capital and a group of angel investors participating. The angel list includes people working at Anthropic, OpenAI, Sierra, Ramp and Cognition. The company is based in San Francisco, was founded in 2025, and sells a voice-first AI tutor to families with students aged 13 to 18. 2

The company went national after a closed beta in which it says more than 1,000 students completed over 1,500 hours of one-on-one tutoring. Its pitch to parents is that a general chatbot resolves questions too quickly for a student to learn anything, and that its tutor is built to make a learner work the problem out loud before moving on. 29

Shan Reddy is co-founder and chief executive, and Jaiden Reddy and Vivek Vajipey are co-founders. The announcement gives Stanford as the shared credential for all three and names one program: Vivek Vajipey studied computer science at Stanford and worked on language-model reasoning at the university's Computation and Cognition Lab. 210

Two of the three came out of True Ventures' fellowship. Shan Reddy worked as an early product hire at Cometeer and as an early-stage investor at True Ventures; Jaiden Reddy and Vajipey were fellows at the firm before engineering roles at Veza and Aisera. 9

The three founders moved from Stanford and from fellowship engineering jobs into founding a company in 2025, and this seed round is their first outside money: $5 million into a product sold to parents one family at a time. 2

Both rounds went to companies selling AI that performs work people were paid to do: building and maintaining enterprise software at Hang Ten, working a student through a problem at Aristotle. Both are seed rounds, Hang Ten's second and Aristotle's first, and the two amounts differ by roughly a factor of ten. Hang Ten, four months old, has raised $85 million in total; Aristotle, about a year old, $5 million.

Across issues, three fields make these entries comparable: the amount and stage of the round, the sector the money went into, and how much operating experience the founder carried into the move. Hang Ten's founder arrived with a decade of enterprise software leadership behind him; Aristotle's three founders arrived from Stanford and from fellowship engineering jobs, and are now selling to parents one family at a time.
