Messi's Argentina farewell has a price list: 90,000 to 480,000 pesos (2026)

Argentina's three October friendlies now have ticket prices. The AFA published them on Saturday, and the last match in the window — Benin, at the Estadio Monumental on Tuesday, Oct. 6 — is the one the federation is selling as Messi's farewell. 1

Tickets for that night run from 90,000 to 480,000 Argentine pesos. 1 Sales open on Tuesday at 18:00 in Argentina, which is Wednesday, 05:00 Asia/Shanghai, and the federation sells them only through Deportick, its online platform. 2

Messi is expected to win his 208th cap that night, and his last: he retired from international football in August, after Argentina lost the World Cup final to Spain. He leaves as the country's record scorer, on 125 goals. 3

At the Monumental, where Argentina play twice, the price list steps up by section. A platea is a numbered grandstand seat and the popular is the cheapest general-admission area.

In Córdoba the two seated sections are the Gasparini at 140,000 pesos and the Ardiles at 170,000, with children's general admission at 25,000. 2 Supporters with disabilities arrange entry during the general sale and collect the ticket in advance; entry on matchday is refused without it. 2

FIFA has ordered Argentina to play their next home match with capacity cut by half, as a sanction over a demonstration of a non-sporting nature at the World Cup. That match is the opener against Bolivia in Córdoba on Sept. 30. 3

Otamendi gets the same night

Lionel Scaloni added nine players to his squad on Saturday, taking the list for the three friendlies from 28 names to 37. 5

The name that stands out is Nicolás Otamendi. He announced his retirement from the national team after the World Cup and comes back for the Oct. 6 match only, which makes the Monumental his send-off as well as Messi's. 6

Six of the nine are based in Argentina: Leonel Flores (Boca Juniors), Tomás Palacios (Estudiantes), Santiago Beltrán, Thiago Almada and Tobías Andrada (all River Plate), and Otamendi, who plays at River too. 6 The other three come from abroad: Santiago Simón (Toluca), Ezequiel Fernández (Bayer Leverkusen) and Valentín Gómez (Real Betis). 6

Flores and Palacios will train at the federation's base at Ezeiza and then be released to play for their clubs before rejoining the group. 5

Barcelona say the tribute is coming

Joan Laporta used Barcelona's ordinary general assembly on Saturday to say the club has already put its plan to Messi: a tribute once the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou is finished. 7

"We told Messi that we would like to hold a tribute for him after the stadium is completed, with the attendance of nearly 105,000 spectators," Laporta said, in remarks the Catalan newspaper Sport carried. 7 He left the decision with Messi: "We will hold the tribute for him when the stadium has been completed, as long as he wants that." 7

The club is waiting for the Camp Nou renovation to reach full capacity before it picks a date. 8 Messi left Barcelona in the summer of 2021, when the club could not register the contract it had agreed with him, and he said goodbye at a press conference rather than in front of a crowd. 8

Laporta also said there had once been the option of one more season for Messi at the club, and that Messi chose another path, and offered his condolences to the family of Jorge Messi, Messi's father and agent, who died on Aug. 8 in Rosario at 68. 7

Eldense: the first home match of the Messi era

Eldense played at home for the first time since Messi bought the club and lost 1-2 to Eibar at the Nuevo Pepico Amat, in Javi Calleja's first match as coach. Eibar went two up through Magunazelaia and Iván Gil, Justin Smith pulled one back with a quarter of an hour left, and the win was Eibar's fifth in a row. 9

The stands welcomed Messi with a banner, and on the same day EFE reported that MiM, the hotel chain Messi owns and Meliá Hotels manages, will become the club's main sponsor. 10

AS reported on Saturday that Messi had executed his purchase option during the week; approval from Spain's High Council for Sports is still pending. 11 Eldense have five points from their first six matches of the LaLiga Hypermotion season. 10

What to watch next

Inter Miami close a three-match week on Sunday night, when San Diego FC visit Nu Stadium for the first meeting between the clubs — Monday, 7:00 a.m. Asia/Shanghai. It is Kily González's first league match in charge, four days after he won the Campeones Cup in his first match. 12

Miami have drawn each of their last three MLS matches and sit second in the Eastern Conference on 45 points from 25 games, with Messi on 19 goals and 13 assists, the league lead in both. San Diego are ninth in the Western Conference on 30 points, have lost three in a row and arrive from a 5-0 home defeat by the Philadelphia Union, the heaviest in the club's short history. 13
