The moon element — named for selene, photoconductive, transforming light into electricity in copy machines.
Selenium was named for the moon goddess Selene (its companion element was named for the sun — tellurium). Gray selenium is photoconductive: its resistance drops dramatically in light. This property powered early photocopiers. Selenium is also an essential trace nutrient and antioxidant.
