Environment Canada’s 5:00 a.m. forecast recorded light drizzle at Vancouver International Airport, 14.0°C, east wind at 17 km/h and 6 km visibility. The forecast calls for a 40% chance of drizzle this morning, clearing this afternoon and a high of 21°C. 1

Seven Boston Bar-area properties reported affected

Global News, updated at 12:01 a.m. PDT, reported that seven properties in the Ainslie Creek area had been affected during the previous 24 hours, according to Fraser Valley Regional District chair Patricia Ross. Four were homes or seasonal cabins and three were outside structures or commercial properties. The report said a new evacuation order covers properties in Electoral Area A that had previously been on alert, bringing the total under evacuation order to 450; Ross cautioned that not all of those properties contain structures or residents. 2

Residents under the order were advised to leave south via Highway 1 or follow first responders’ directions. The report also said the Boston Bar post office is closed and incoming mail is being held at a secure off-site location. 2

Suspected pirates seize chemical tanker in Gulf of Aden

Armed assailants are believed to have boarded and taken control of the chemical tanker Asana off Yemen’s southern coast, about 65 nautical miles south of Al Mukalla, Reuters reported. Maritime-security sources said the incident looked more like suspected Somali piracy than a Houthi attack. The vessel sent a distress call at about 11:20 p.m. PDT on Thursday; the status of the ship and crew remained unclear in the report. 3

The incident adds a separate live security concern to a region already facing severe shipping disruption. A Reuters report said traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had again nearly stopped as U.S.-Iran hostilities intensified, with oil rising to about $85 a barrel. 4

Iran reports first strike in Syria during current war

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they struck a U.S. special-operations command centre near al-Tanf in eastern Syria, in what Reuters described as the first known Iranian attack on Syrian territory during the current war. Reuters said it could not independently verify the claim; a Syrian military source said the attack occurred near Tanf but did not hit the base and caused no casualties or material damage. 5
