August 30 LEGO radar: Mack's Team Truck leads a three-set retired-price screen
Mack's Team Truck is the only clean price lead in a three-set retired LEGO screen; the other two listings need a pass or a deeper contents check.
The scan window ran from August 23 at 10:00 through August 30 at 10:00, 2026, UTC-05:00. Three opened eBay pages supplied usable retired-set leads. Each page showed a recent revision date, while the native listing-start time remained undisclosed. The other monitored surfaces yielded zero detail pages with a qualifying weekly timestamp.
This issue is a date-unverified price screen, rather than a list of confirmed new listings. The ranking combines retirement age, exclusive-minifigure signals, available price evidence, condition, and the size of the gap to a market reference. BrickLink supply counts were unavailable, so the scarcity order remains provisional.
The three-set screen
| Rank | Set and theme | Retirement signal | Marketplace page | Price test | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 8486 Mack's Team Truck · Cars | Retired 2012; 1 exclusive minifigure; 31 recorded sales | eBay, $188 used + $15.75 shipping; 100% positive seller | $249.69 six-month reference; 24.7% below before shipping, 18.4% below at $203.75 landed | Check completeness, then target around $190 before shipping |
| 2 | 10221 Super Star Destroyer · Star Wars UCS | Retired 2014; 3 of 5 minifigures exclusive; 3,152 pieces | eBay, C$1,045.95 (about US$752.21) + about US$53.90 shipping; listing says no minifigures | $1,465 sealed reference; 48.7% below before shipping, 45.0% below landed, with a major condition mismatch | Treat as an incomplete parts/display lead, not a sealed-set deal |
| 3 | 60439 Space Science Lab · LEGO City | Retired 2025; 1 exclusive minifigure; 57 recorded sales | eBay, $84.99 new/sealed + $14.57 shipping; 99.3% positive seller | $51.47 six-month reference; 65.1% above before shipping and 93.4% above landed | Pass at this price; wait for a materially lower total |
Why the ranking is provisional
The 8486 page is the only lead that combines an older retirement date with a used copy priced below its current reference and a clear path to verification. The 10221 page has the largest apparent discount, yet the seller states that the minifigures are missing. The 60439 page has a sealed condition claim, but its total sits far above the reference.
The scarcity signals come from retirement age, exclusive minifigures, and the number of recorded sales. Mack's Team Truck retired in 2012 and has 31 recorded sales. Super Star Destroyer retired in 2014, while Investabrick records five minifigures and three unique figures. Space Science Lab retired in 2025 and has 57 recorded sales. 123
BrickLink supply counts were unavailable in this scan. The order uses visible scarcity proxies and price confidence instead of claiming a complete rarity score.
1. Mack's Team Truck (8486)
The eBay page lists an assembled, used copy at $188, with $15.75 delivery. The seller describes the model as in excellent, like-new condition, reports 100% positive feedback, and has sold 575 items. The page records a last update on August 29, 2026, while the listing-start time is undisclosed. 4
Brick Ranker identifies 8486 as a 379-piece Cars set released in 2011 and retired on December 31, 2012. The current six-month average is $249.69. The latest dated monthly point shown is March 2026 at $302.83 from two sales, so the fresh-looking eBay revision should not be mistaken for a fresh listing. Brick Ranker also records one exclusive Lightning McQueen minifigure and 31 sales since March 2022. 1
The asking price is 24.7% below the $249.69 reference. Shipping lifts the comparison total to $203.75, still 18.4% below that reference. The March point is older and thin, so the six-month figure is the better screening anchor, while both figures remain market guides rather than guaranteed sale prices.
Ask for a current photo of the actual truck, trailer, instruction book, box, and every minifigure. Match Lightning McQueen’s Rust-eze hood and red-side printing to the set inventory. The phrase “complete” needs a parts-level check before the $188 price earns a buy decision.
Action ceiling: set a saved-search alert near $190 before shipping. A copy around that level becomes actionable after the seller documents the exclusive minifigure and the trailer’s small parts.
2. Super Star Destroyer (10221)
The eBay page asks C$1,045.95, which the page converts to about US$752.21, plus about US$53.90 shipping. The listing is marked New: Other and says no minifigures. The seller has 100% positive feedback and 160 items sold. The page shows a last update on August 27, 2026; the native listing-start time is undisclosed. 5
Investabrick identifies 10221 as a 3,152-piece Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set with a $400 original retail price and a 2014 retirement. Its current sealed value is $1,465. The set has five minifigures, three of them unique to the set; Investabrick lists Admiral Piett at $90. 2
Against the sealed reference, the eBay asking price is 48.7% below and the landed total is about 45.0% below. The comparison becomes unreliable because the listing omits all minifigures. The price describes a possible large-scale build or parts purchase, not a sealed collector copy.
Request photos of the box seals, every numbered bag, the instruction books, and the minifigure compartments. Ask the seller to list whether the five figures, stands, and printed elements are absent or merely stored separately. Price the copy against a complete used 10221 after the contents are documented; a sealed-set percentage cannot justify the purchase on its own.
Action ceiling: keep the listing on a parts/display watchlist. A collector seeking the complete set should wait for a listing that names the minifigure contents and condition in writing.
3. Space Science Lab (60439)
The eBay page lists a new, sealed copy at $84.99 plus $14.57 shipping. The seller reports 99.3% positive feedback and 277 items sold. The page shows a last update on August 27, 2026; the native listing-start time is undisclosed. 6
Brick Ranker identifies 60439 as a 560-piece LEGO City set released in 2024 and retired on December 31, 2025. The current six-month average is $51.47. The latest fully dated monthly point is July 2026 at $66.07 from two sales. Brick Ranker records three minifigures, one exclusive figure, and 57 sales since April 2024. 3
The $84.99 asking price is 65.1% above the current reference. Shipping raises the total to $99.56, or 93.4% above the reference. The sealed box removes the completeness problem that affects used copies, yet the price leaves no discount for the buyer.
Check that the actual box shows set number 60439, factory seals, the barcode, and undamaged end flaps. Ask for a current photo rather than relying on a stock image. A sealed claim becomes useful only when the box identity and tape condition are visible.
Action ceiling: pass at $84.99. Reopen the comparison near $55 delivered, then check the July sales sample before buying.
The five-minute buyer check
- Confirm the set identity. Match the set number on the actual box, instruction cover, or printed listing photo. A theme name alone cannot support a fair comparison.
- Separate revision time from listing time. An eBay last-updated date records a page change. The start date is the evidence needed to call a listing new during August 23–30.
- Add shipping. Compare the landed total with the reference: $203.75 for 8486, about US$806.11 for 10221, and $99.56 for 60439.
- Resolve condition in writing. For used sets, ask for a parts inventory and minifigure list. For sealed sets, ask for photos of every seal and the barcode.
- Check the expensive pieces first. 8486 needs its exclusive Lightning McQueen; 10221 needs all five minifigures and its printed elements; 60439 needs the sealed box identity and tape evidence.
Bottom line
Mack's Team Truck 8486 is the week’s only clean price lead: its $188 asking price remains below the current six-month reference after shipping, subject to a completeness check. Super Star Destroyer 10221 shows a much larger percentage gap, yet the missing minifigures move it into parts/display territory. Space Science Lab 60439 is a pass because the sealed listing costs far more than the current reference.
The scan found three useful saved-search anchors and zero eBay listing-start times that could be verified inside August 23–30. Use the prices to set alerts, and keep the word “new” reserved for a listing with a native start date in the weekly window.
