The Yogurt Cup Drifts Down

A bedtime-soft specific-product spotlight for an 8-ounce yogurt cup: the U.S. city average eased, while regional sale signs kept telling different little stories.

BLS average-price data puts natural, fruit-flavored yogurt at $1.587 per 8 ounces in June 2026 and $1.553 in July, a 3.4-cent drop (about 2.1%). The series is a U.S. city-average estimate, not a quote from one store. 1

The July 2026 CPI release, published August 12, 2026, says food at home fell 0.1% in July on a seasonally adjusted basis and rose 2.7% over the year. Dairy and related products fell 0.1% for the month and 0.5% over twelve months. 23

For the familiar shelf-side anchors, BLS average prices moved from June to July as follows: large Grade A eggs $2.141 to $2.189 per dozen, whole milk $4.317 to $4.313 per gallon, and white bread $1.814 to $1.820 per pound. These are U.S. city averages, so they describe movement rather than a guaranteed checkout total. 456

USDA AMS’s Weekly Grocery Store Dairy Feature Activity report covers August 10–14, 2026 and was published August 14. Its public table lists non-organic 4–6-ounce yogurt ads at a weighted average of $1.05 in the Southwest across 1,438 stores, with a $0.39–$1.66 advertised range; the Midwest shows $0.64 across 1,815 stores, with a $0.33–$1.25 range. These are advertised-feature figures, not ordinary shelf averages. 78
