Five IKEA New-label finds for small apartments: a slimmer RÅSKOG, hidden light, and more
Five current IKEA New listings for compact homes, including region-specific RÅSKOG trolleys, a battery sensor light, a sofa armrest tray, a slide-under side table, and a no-assembly drawer divider.
Five listings marked New on IKEA's US, UK, Japan, or Sweden sites stood out in this week's check. The useful pattern is simple: each one solves a small-space problem without asking for a full room redesign.
The check covers the Aug. 10-17 issue window and was made on Aug. 17. IKEA's product pages expose a current New badge, current price, and SKU data, but they do not expose a first-stocked date for these products. Read this as a current-New check rather than proof that every item first appeared on a particular day. Store stock is also postcode-dependent.

1. RÅSKOG is the broadest small-space bet
Best for: a renter who keeps moving the same supplies between a desk, kitchenette, and sofa.
Decision: Buy the UK version if the 28 cm width and 38 cm depth fit your gap. The Japan listing is a different, larger regional variant at 35 x 45 x 77 cm, so it gives you more capacity but takes up more floor space. Neither version needs a permanent wall attachment, and the castors make the storage easy to relocate. The UK page lists £19 and a 12 kg total maximum; the Japan page lists ¥3,499 and an 18 kg total maximum. 12
Price and regional status: The red-brown variant is marked New on the UK and Japan product pages. The US and Sweden New-product pages did not confirm this colour/SKU during the check. The two article numbers are 106.372.03 in the UK and 206.372.07 in Japan.
Assembly watch-out: The UK guide is eight pages and shows about seven illustrated stages. Most of the work is aligning the three shelf frames and fitting the castors. Set aside 30-45 minutes, then check that the shelf fasteners are tight before loading it. 3

2. KÖLVATTEN lights a dark gap without using a socket
Best for: a wardrobe, kitchen cabinet, or drawer where a cable would be more annoying than the darkness.
Decision: This is the most useful WFH-adjacent pick if your desk storage is dim and you rent. The 27 1/2-inch bar uses a passive infrared sensor, turns on when it detects movement, and switches off after 60 seconds. IKEA says the sensor reacts at about 5 ft. The current US page lists $14.99. 4
Price and regional status: The US product page marks article 406.337.79 New at $14.99. The current UK, Japan, and Sweden listing checks did not confirm this SKU, so the price should not be converted into a regional equivalent.
Assembly watch-out: The guide is 24 pages because it covers several languages and mounting arrangements. The physical work is short: choose the mounting route, secure the holders, fit the bar, and load four AA rechargeable batteries. Plan 10-15 minutes. The batteries are sold separately; IKEA recommends four LADDA 2450 mAh AA cells, while the USB-C cable and charger are also separate. 45

3. KRAMPHULT turns a sofa arm into a small desk
Best for: laptop-free tasks, a phone, a coffee, or a notebook when you work from the sofa and do not have room for another table.
Decision: Buy it only after measuring the armrest. KRAMPHULT fits flat, straight armrests 10-24 cm wide and carries up to 3 kg. That makes it a useful rental-friendly perch for a drink and a notebook, but a poor match for a rounded, sloped, or very soft arm. The 30 x 25 cm tray is small by design. The Japan page lists ¥799 and article 506.303.32. 6
Price and regional status: The white/metal version is marked New on IKEA Japan's page. The dark lilac-red option is a separate article number, so do not assume it shares the same regional price or stock.
Assembly watch-out: The eight-page guide shows roughly four physical fitting stages. Allow about 10 minutes, then test the tray with a light load before using it beside a laptop. 7

4. UGGLERUM is a real side table with a small footprint
Best for: a sofa-side laptop, lamp, or drink when a conventional coffee table would block the walking path.
Decision: UGGLERUM earns its space when you can use the 67 cm height and slide its foot under the sofa. The tabletop is 46 x 40 cm, and IKEA gives it a 15 kg maximum load. The solid rubberwood construction makes it feel more like a proper piece of furniture than a temporary perch, but its 46 cm width is still worth measuring beside a narrow sofa. The UK page lists £69; Sweden lists 799 kr. 89
Price and regional status: The brown article 006.279.83 is marked New on both the UK and Sweden product pages. The two pages show the same dimensions and load limit, with local prices in pounds and kronor.
Assembly watch-out: The official guide runs to 12 pages and shows five illustrated stages. Expect 30-45 minutes. IKEA also tells owners to check and retighten the fasteners regularly, which is sensible for a table whose base slides under furniture. 10

5. VARIERA fixes the drawer you open every morning
Best for: a one-person kitchen where cutlery, tools, and packets keep sliding into one another.
Decision: This is the cheapest and least risky pick in the set. VARIERA is a bamboo divider that expands from 47.4 to 53.5 cm in depth, stands 11.8 cm high, and is only 1.8 cm wide. Measure the drawer's usable depth before buying. IKEA says to place it lengthwise from the front edge to the back edge. The Sweden page lists 99 kr for article 106.196.14. 11
Price and regional status: The Sweden page marks the divider New at 99 kr. The current US, UK, and Japan listing checks did not confirm article 106.196.14, so treat the Sweden price as a local listing rather than a global benchmark.
Assembly watch-out: IKEA states that no assembly is required. The only setup is measuring the drawer, expanding the divider, and placing it lengthwise. 12

The short version
- RÅSKOG: the most flexible choice if you need storage that can move between rooms. Choose the regional size by footprint, not by name alone.
- KÖLVATTEN: the fastest fix for a dark cabinet, with four rechargeable batteries and a separate charger added to the real cost.
- KRAMPHULT: the cheapest way to create a sofa-side surface, provided your armrest is flat and 10-24 cm wide.
- UGGLERUM: the furniture-grade option when a sofa-side table needs to slide into the room without taking over the floor.
- VARIERA: the one-person-kitchen fix with no assembly and almost no visual bulk.
