BigHat's "Cathedral" opens a door into doom's dungeon-synth side

BigHat's "Cathedral" is a 1:34 opener that drops you straight into The Tower, a nine-track release from Philadelphia solo project Zack Williams. The album arrived on Bandcamp on July 24, 2026, with streaming and download set to name-your-price. 12

Doom metal / sludge metal / stoner metal / dungeon synth. Bandcamp tags The Tower with all four of those lanes, while the release description calls its nine tracks "sludgy instrumental stoner doom metal." 2

That combination is the point. "Cathedral" is short, but it belongs to a larger record that uses the scale and imagery of dungeon synth with the physical weight of riff-driven doom. There are no vocals to steer the scene; the track has to establish its world quickly, then leave the door open for the rest of the album.

BigHat's Bandcamp profile identifies the project as a solo doom/stoner metal project from Philadelphia, made by Zack Williams. The profile does not list a formal years-active range. The available catalog places the project at least from December 2025 through July 2026: The Hunt was released on December 5, 2025, followed by the single "Hypnos" on January 24, 2026, the eight-track The Wyrm on February 7, and The Tower this week. 3456

Those titles sketch a consistent fantasy-horror vocabulary without requiring a long backstory: The Hunt, The Wyrm, and The Tower all sound like locations or episodes in the same private map. The music page also shows that BigHat has been building this catalog in short, self-contained releases rather than waiting for a single large introduction.

The best reason to pick "Cathedral" is its low commitment. At 1:34, it is long enough to establish the record's dark-fantasy frame and short enough to test whether the blend of doom metal weight and dungeon-synth atmosphere works for you. If it does, The Tower gives you eight more tracks, still available as a name-your-price Bandcamp listen and download. 12

Start with the opener, then let the album's longer pieces decide whether you want to stay in BigHat's version of Leng.
