Environment Canada recorded 17.1°C, mostly cloudy skies, an east-southeast wind at 26 km/h, and 24 km visibility at Vancouver International Airport at 1:00 p.m. The 11:00 a.m. forecast called for a 30% chance of drizzle early this afternoon, then a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 20°C. 1

Signal Hill wildfire: evacuation order remains around One Mile Park

A CityNews update at 12:44 p.m. said an evacuation order covers One Mile Park south of Pemberton and several nearby properties as the out-of-control Signal Hill wildfire continues. The Village of Pemberton said the order is intended to give crews safe working space. CityNews, citing the B.C. Wildfire Service, reported the fire at about 97 hectares as of Friday morning; an update just after noon said 57 firefighters and four helicopters were assigned, with crews working to secure the perimeter from Pemberton Creek to the fire’s southwest corner. Highway 99 remains open, with no stopping within the wildfire area. 2

Pemberton is outside Metro Vancouver. The immediate watch is whether the order or alert boundary changes as crews work through the afternoon.

U.S.-Iran strikes expand to infrastructure; shipping remains a risk

In a 12:11 p.m. update, Reuters reported that the United States struck bridges in Iran and that Tehran hit a power-generation and water-desalination station in Kuwait, causing damage, a fire and disruption to a large number of electricity-generation units, according to Kuwaiti authorities. Reuters also reported that U.S. Marines boarded a tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. The report said the U.N. expressed concern about attacks on civilian infrastructure; casualty figures in related reports were not treated as independently confirmed here. 3

Norway: more than 100 homes destroyed near Drammen

Reuters updated its report at 12:27 p.m. saying more than 100 homes were destroyed by a fire near Drammen, about 50 km west of Oslo. Police evacuated hundreds of people; more than 60 firefighters and helicopters were working at the scene. Reuters reported no casualties or missing people at the time of its update, and said the cause was not immediately known. 4
