Comcast Turns Xfinity Routers Into Motion Sensors

Comcast is activating Wi-Fi motion sensing on compatible Xfinity gateways through a free Xfinity app update. The feature works on XB7 and newer gateways, detects disruptions between the gateway and connected devices, and offers Home Watch, Away Watch, and Dark Watch modes. It is opt-in and can be switched off in the app. Xfinity Shield Select adds an indoor camera, a door/window sensor, cloud storage, and urgent response for $15 per month.1

The bridge tracks two other August 18 developments. OpenAI said it paused reinforcement learning for two weeks after the Hugging Face incident; its largest planned frontier run remains on hold, while a new monitoring system targets alerts within 30 minutes and adds roughly 20% compute overhead.2 Etched raised $700 million at a $21 billion valuation after Jane Street tested and bought its AI hardware.3
