Under a UV lamp, this platypus turns into a blue-green night-light.
In visible light, its fur looks brown. In a study of three museum specimens, the fur absorbed ultraviolet light at 200–400 nm and re-emitted visible light at 500–600 nm, making it fluoresce green or cyan. 1 Researchers still do not know why the platypus does this. 2
